There's a reason I keep a box in my training when I could just lift heavier. 🦄
Here's what most people never find out: as we age, we don't lose strength first — we lose power first. Your max strength slips slowly after your 30s… but explosive power can fade nearly twice as fast. The ability to move quickly disappears well before the ability to move heavy.
The culprit is your fast-twitch fibres — behind every sprint, jump, and stumble you catch. They're first to fade with age. And the hidden gem: your body only recruits them when you demand speed. Grind slow reps and they stay asleep. Move explosively — like a box jump — and you finally wake them up. Use it or lose it, quite literally.
Bonus: plyos also sharpen reflexes, build springier tendons (better running economy), and strengthen bone — real longevity training in disguise.
That box jump isn't just for show. 😉 It feeds straight into my HYROX build — the same explosive recoil powers the sled push and keeps my stride efficient across 8 x 1km of running.

It’s official. 🎯
After 30+ years of lifting and a long chapter in figure competition, I’ve set my sights on something brand new — and today I made it official: I’m competing in HYROX.
This shot is me grinding through wall balls during our partner workout… and honestly? It lit me up. 🔥
I walked away from the figure stage because that goal had run its course for me. But here’s what I’ve never walked away from — the belief that we all need something to chase. Goals keep us sharp. The difference often isn’t willpower — it’s a gene called COMT.
COMT sets how fast you clear dopamine and stress chemicals from your system. And gene expression tends to sort people into two camps:

It’s not a real diagnosis — it’s a TikTok term for puffy cheeks, swollen jawline, under-eye bags everyone’s blaming on stress.
Truth? Most of what you’re seeing isn’t cortisol. It’s late wine, salty takeout, broken sleep, skipped breakfasts, and blood sugar chaos. Stress matters — but it’s rarely the whole story.
What I tell my clients (and what I actually do myself):
