The new Rainbow Valley pedestrian bridge is now open! For folks on bikes, on foot, or other active transportation, this new bridge cuts down the hill climbing needed to cross Whitemud Ravine.

The new Rainbow Valley Pedestrian Bridge is open 🚶🚴

If you walk, run or bike through southwest Edmonton, this one's for you. The new bridge gives you your own dedicated crossing, separate from vehicle traffic, so you can cross safely and comfortably every time!

It also connects you to the wider active transportation network, making it easier to get where you're going.

Safe, connected infrastructure like this is part of how the City is making travel easier for Edmontonians, no matter how you move around the city.

🚧This stage of the expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026

Today, joined by his family and friends, Bike Edmonton had the honour of erecting a Ghost Bike in memory of Alfred Reisdorf. Alfred was tragically killed while crossing 34th Street at 28A Ave when a driver in an SUV struck him on the afternoon of November 23rd 2025.

Alfred loved cycling and being outdoors, and while it gave his family a small comfort that he passed doing what he loved, it will never fill the tremendous void that his absence has left in their lives. He is especially missed every day by his wife and grandchildren.

Ghost bikes are small, sombre, roadside memorials to people who have been killed in traffic while cycling. The installations are meant as reminders of the tragedy that took place, and as quiet statements in support of the right of cyclists to safe travel.

For us, the death of a fellow cyclist hits home. We all travel the same streets and face the same risks, and realize it could just as easily be any of us. Each time we put up a ghost bike we hope to never have to do it again, but remain committed to installing these memorials as long as they are needed. We remain committed to pushing for improvement in our city's infrastructure and culture to ensure that everyone who uses our roads arrives at their destination safely.

Alfred's memorial is the 22nd ghost bike that has been placed in Edmonton since 2007. His death was one of a record number of 32 heartbreaking traffic fatalities in 2025 in the city.

The west side remains open.

Heads up! The east side of the High Level Bridge will be closed due to erosion on the southeast approach from the recent rains. The west side will remain open.

🚧 Traffic Advisory: High Level Bridge 🚧

On June 25, the High Level Bridge will be reduced to one lane from 10 am to 2 pm.

The temporary lane closure is required to allow crews to complete roadway and sidewalk inspections.

This work is being completed as a precaution after recent heavy rains and ahead of further forecasted heavy rainfall expected later this weekend.

Drivers should plan ahead and anticipate delays while crossing the bridge during this time. Pedestrian access will remain open.
