What if resilience isn't something we build alone?
On June 25, Zita (.fitnessanarchist) will be joining Nerd Nite #94: Pride Edition to explore the science of human connection and why belonging may be one of the most powerful factors influencing our health, wellbeing, and ability to navigate adversity.
In this ted-talk style presentation, Zita will dive into what neuroscience, psychology, and health research can teach us about community, connection, minority stress, and resilience.
Sometimes the strongest thing we can do isn't standing alone.
It's finding each other.
Zita will be joined by from .institute
and from who will be presenting on equally nerdy q***r topics - so it is certain to be an entertaining night of geeking out
It all goes down Thursday, June 25th at 7pm at the Fringe Arts Barn. Tickets are pay what you can, so we hope to see a full house!

To everyone having a "Brooks and Janis Day" (including and .irwin themselves!):
Thank you for showing up for your community. Your relentless, tireless efforts are never unseen. What you do is so important. Too important to risk losing to burnout and exhaustion.
May we all welcome rest into our community advocacy efforts. Let us all begin to see absences as necessary parts of social progress and self-care and self-compassion as essential tools in our healing.
We know that might be the biggest challenge of all - the work is heavy, thick, and urgent and the pressure to push through is enormous.
But we have a long road ahead towards a gentler world, and sometimes we all need to rest.
(Now go drink some water and maybe even take a nap đ â¤ď¸)

We are so proud of , tackling this massivel topic. Nate has spent the last several years refining his expertise in clinical exercise considerations for Autism and ADHD (and frequently co-occuring conditions) and this is certain to be an excellent VIRTUAL session!

NEW LEARNING SESSION!
This session is brought to you by Autism Edmonton with support from the Alberta 2slgbtqi+ Chamber of Commerce.
Exercise is often discussed through neurotypical expectations, but movement, fitness, and physical activity can look very different when viewed through an autistic lens. đ§ đ
Join Autism Edmonton and Nate Montey (facilitator) for âExploring Exercise Through an Autistic Lens," a virtual learning session focused on understanding movement, sensory experiences, motivation, accessibility, and well-being in ways that honour autistic experiences and needs.
This session will explore how sensory processing, executive functioning, coordination, anxiety, interoception, burnout, and social expectations can impact relationships with exercise and physical activity. Participants will also learn about creating more neuro-affirming and accessible approaches to movement that prioritize regulation, enjoyment, and sustainability rather than pressure or conformity.
Whether you are autistic, supporting an autistic person, or working in education, recreation, health, or wellness, this session offers valuable insight into making exercise and movement more inclusive and supportive for neurodivergent individuals.
Date: Monday, June 1, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM MST

Is life in Alberta feeling particularly heavy lately?
Are you a marginalized human struggling to hold the physical, mental, and emotional weight of it all?
Do you question whether you're strong enough to survive an ideological government that seems intent on your extinction?
Then this new program is for you.
Introducing:
đ The Weight of the World, a program specifically designed for Albertans forced to shoulder the load of systemic oppression.
No need to register.
If you're in Alberta, you're already enrolled.
Highlights include:
⢠Human rights debates that shouldnât be debates
⢠Access that depends on how hard you fight for it
⢠Entire communities carrying more than their share of stress and fear
It's kind of like progressive overload, but let's just call it what it is:
Survival.
There's no need to register.
If you're in Alberta, you're automatically enrolled.
If it feels heavy, that's cause it is.
The good(ish) news?
You don't have to do it alone. We'll be here to help you carry the weight, and make the hard days feel a little lighter.
Yes, this is an April Fools joke.
Sort of.
But the support here is real.
We're all in this together.
So let's share the load.

Visibility should feel safe.
For a lot of Trans people, it doesnât.
In today's sociopolitical climate, being seen without protection doesnât always feel like empowerment.
It feels like exposure.
It feels like risk.
It feels like navigating systems, spaces, and conversations that were never built with you in mind.
As an openly Trans-led organization, we know these feelings all too well.
We live them every day.
So today isnât just about celebrating visibility.
Itâs about asking what we - as a society - are actually doing with it.
Because visibility without action changes very little.
If you are an ally, THIS is your moment.
THIS is your call to action.
Today (and every day), as we bring our visibility to the forefront, carrying all the risks that accompany it, we need you to meet us there.
We do not need more passive support.
We need visible, active, accountable allyship.
That means speaking up in rooms where Trans people are NOT present
That means challenging policies, language, and systems that create harm.
That means making your support known, not assumed.
That means taking on some of the risk, not leaving it to those already carrying it.
Trans people have always been visible. The question is who has been standing beside them.
Right now, ALLY visibility matters just as much, if not more.
Be clear about where you stand. Be loud about it. Be consistent about it.
Visibility should feel safe. Letâs build the conditions that make that true.

đ°đˇ Spring has sprung⌠and so has our schedule đˇđ°
For April, weâre shaking things up a little with a Spring Swap đ
đ Mon + Wed have swapped
đ Tues + Thurs have swapped
đ Saturday stays the same (for now...!)
Why the switch?
We want more of you to actually access the classes you love - not miss them because life, work, or energy levels say otherwise.
So weâre testing a little schedule remix to open up more options across the week.
Weâve also pushed our popular Monday + Wednesday classes back a bit later to make getting here after work a little less chaotic. (You asked, we listened!)
What's not changing:
⨠Same instructors
⨠Same class formats
⨠Same booking process
This schedule is active for April only - a fresh reset for a fresh season đź
But fear not: We have more surprises in store for you for the rest of spring and summer!
If you're new to APF, remember that your first week of classes is always free!
Try something new, switch up your routine, or finally make it to that class youâve been eyeing! And stay tuned for other exciting announcements as we plan to make this the best spring ever!

* A reminder: many of our classes continue to run a waitlist. Please make sure to register in advance if you'd like to join us!

Today, March 20th is Two Spirit and Indigenous LGTBQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day in Canada.
This day feels particularly special for us, on the heels of a deeply moving and hope-filled meeting with Councillors from MaskĂŞkosihk Enoch Cree Nation and community members that we serve collaboratively to discuss our continuing efforts to bridge barriers to fitness accessibility.
We were honoured by the openness, generosity, and leadership shared with us and humbled by the willingness to speak honestly about both the realities and the possibilities that exist when care is rooted in community, culture, and relationship.
We carry forward a deep sense of responsibility to listen, to learn, and to move in ways that honour the strength, knowledge, and lived experience of Two Spirit and Indigenous LGTBQQIA+ communities.
Today is a celebration - but also a reminder that this work is ongoing, relational, and collective.
Decolonization is an intentional practice that demands meaningful actions and commitment from every layer of the community - one we aim to practice and improve upon as we continue to learn and grow.
Today, we honour our Two Spirit and Indigenous members of , and .
Thank you for what you bring to our spaces, our lives, and our community.
