I promise you, it will get easier

When going to the gym becomes a habit - it gets easier.

When you start feeling stronger, happier, and healthier - it gets easier.

When you start to see the physical results - it gets easier.

You just have to do it long enough to see these things happen!

Here’s how âŹ‡ïž

Everything I do with my clients is to create sustainable results - meaning when I train you, I help you to see results while enjoying what you’re eating, I aim to create workouts you like (or at the very least tolerate lol), and I help you create habits in your life that allow you to live happier, rather than giving you a plan and habits you’ll stick to until you see your goal and immediately ditch (and with that bounce back to where you were before).

I help my clients to move better, to wake up without pain and be able to go throughout their day to day feeling good, rather than complaining about a bum knee or a bad shoulder.

I help my clients remember that a bad day in the gym is just one day. That they won just by showing up when they felt down and even if they aren’t setting PR’s they’re still making progress.

To summarize, my goal with any client I work with is to help them feel stronger, healthier, and happier, both physically and mentally (within reason of course, I’m no therapist and have a lane to stay in, although I will refer out when I see necessary) for the long term, rather than creating fast results that only last a short time.

This might be one of the most honest videos I’ve posted in awhile about myself

And tell the truth I don’t fully know what the message is - maybe that there’s a lesson in the struggle? - but I felt called to share this.

Things don’t come easy for me.

I mean, with my anxiety, going to hang out with friends often feels fu***ng terrifying and difficult to do.

Any little change in my routine makes things feel way harder than they should for me.

Even the things “I’m good at” aren’t easy and rely on a ton of work from me.

And if I mess up even a little bit, I mentally beat the s**t out of myself for some time (working on this real hard).

But from all of this I can say I’ve built the will to work hard. I’ve become more resilient.

I’m sure there’s other good qualities I’ve gained through this but I’ve never been one to see the good in myself so I’ll stop there.

But I guess if any of you are struggling. If any of you feel like life is hard and like you aren’t good at things and have to work harder than others - good. Because you’re building skills that they aren’t that will help you for the rest of your life.

Keep pushing, take it one day at a time and just grind it out.

I don’t want the nuance of what I’m saying to be missed here

I’m all for living a healthy life, I’m all for getting in great shape and feeling strong and confident.

But there should be a balance with enjoying a social life too.

If your life revolves solely around the gym and you hate rest days because you don’t know what to do, you never do things or eat things you actually enjoy, that’s unhealthy too.

It’s building a balance, where you’re able to go to the bar on a Friday and have a drink or two and enjoy yourself, and then show up at the gym again the next day, getting back to eating as your plan or macros or whatever have you eating. Where you miss the “optimal” lift you had planned because you had some friends invite you to go play basketball. Where you miss one lift when you haven’t for weeks because you have a friend in town you want to hang out with.

There may be times where you’re more locked in and living more strict, but if you’re living healthy 80-90% of the time and then enjoy yourself the other 10-20% of the time - that’s a good thing! Living like that consistently will keep you happy AND healthy!

Your results come from what you do most of the time, consistently. But the stress release you get from going for that spontaneous hangout, or the joy you get from enjoying some nachos with some friends (when you’ve been locked in eating healthy) is worth it, and likely will benefit you in the long term on creating a healthy life.

You need to get to the point where you’re not allowing your decisions to dictate your actions.

We got goals to chase people, and sometimes we’re not going to feel like doing the things we know we need to - it doesn’t matter (with context, make sure you take care of yourself and give yourself rest when necessary).

Some night you’ll want fast food, but you have food prepared - stick to the plan.

Some days you won’t want to go to the gym - stick to the plan.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s times where you should allow yourself to enjoy yourself, hang out with your friends, have a social life - but that doesn’t mean completely going off the plan and delaying your goals.

Figure out what you need to do to get to your goals, then stick to the plan.

I believe the confidence is built through action, but I also believe that you need to fix your mentals to be your most confident - so here’s a few things you can do this week to help you build confidence

1. Think about what you’re thinking about, I mean really think about it. If you’re constantly tearing yourself down and beating yourself up, you begin to believe it, likewise if you start focusing on the positives in your life, your good qualities and what you do well, you’ll start to slowly believe it.
2. Set some sort of goal for this week, and then do it. It doesn’t have to be big to start, it can be simple, like going to the gym 1-2 times, or eating some fruit everyday, or getting to bed at a certain time. Then go and crush the goal, which will build belief that you can accomplish your goals.
3. Do something to challenge yourself. You need to believe in yourself and that you can do hard things. Purposely putting yourself in a spot where you have to deal with hard things means that when they happen in your life you have belief that you can get through it. This is why the gym can be helpful, you’re literally going in there with the focus of challenging yourself and improving yourself.

Don’t get me wrong, these aren’t going to immediately make you the most confident person ever, but if you can start doing them today they’ll start to add up. And similar to the gym, if you’re consistent with it for long enough, you’ll build strong confidence.

I truly believe you should be able to live your day to day and hit your workouts without relying on caffeine and pre workout

That being said my opinion on this has changed throughout the years.

When I was 17-23ish I was consuming all the caffeine. Not gonna lie I was on a path to a heart attack for sure, and I cranked the strongest pre workout I could find before every workout.

Then for a few years I completely avoided caffeine. Any amount made me super anxious and I became super anti pre workout and believed your diet and sleep should fuel you enough for your workout.

Now, as I find most my beliefs come to - I have a pretty balanced take on it.

I still believe your diet and sleep should do most of the work, you shouldn’t need 500-600mg+ every single day just to survive. You shouldn’t need 400mg of pre workout just to get through a lift. However, I also don’t think it’s wrong to have a couple coffee’s throughout the day. Or one and an energy drink. As long as you’re staying within a healthy limit.

I also personally enjoy having some of an energy drink before a workout (and will usually finish it after), especially when they taste so good 😂. Could I get through my workout without it? Most days, yes, however I also recognize the extra little bit of energy is great!

So while I will recommend getting enough sleep and eating properly, I also am not against taking your caffeine in a healthy daily dose.

Also I fully recommend RYSE Supplements Alani Nu GHOSTÂź Energy energy drinks.

And Red Bull Canada 🇹🇩 if they would ever listen to me and bring back the coconut flavour!
