Have you ever inflated your CV just to get in the door, then felt the walls closing in once you actually had to perform?

One of our community member is living this reality right now. They lied to land a Data Analyst role, and now the gap between what they claimed and what they can actually do is starting to show. Sleepless nights, mounting pressure, and a decision they can't keep avoiding.

Do they come clean and resign, or stay and catch up fast?

We want to hear your take. Drop your advice below.

A vacation with conditions attached isn't really a vacation.

Two weeks off sounds generous until you read the fine print: check in every few days.
Now your body has left the office, but your mind never clocked out.

That's the cost of accepting terms without questioning them. Rest that comes with strings isn't rest, it's just work in disguise.

This is what I think.

What would you do in a situation where you have to agree to a conditional work vacation?

August job fairs are happening across Canada.

But showing up is not enough.

You need to know what to say, how to introduce yourself, what questions to ask, how to follow up, and how to position your resume and LinkedIn before you attend.

Comment “Job Fairs” and I will send you the list.

**3 Signs You’re Not Really on Vacation**

You may be away from the office, but are you actually resting?

1. **You keep checking your work messages**
You open your email “just to see what’s happening” and end up responding to questions that could have waited.

2. **Your colleagues still treat you as available**
You are joining calls, approving work or solving problems because no proper handover was completed before you left.

3. **You feel guilty for disconnecting**
Instead of enjoying your time off, you are worried that people will think you are not committed to your job.

That is not a vacation. That is remote work from a nicer location.

Your leave should not require you to remain on standby. Prepare your handover, set clear boundaries and log off properly.

You earned the time off. Take it.

Never go on vacation without doing these 7 things at work:

Going on vacation should not mean spending your entire break responding to messages, searching for files or explaining unfinished tasks.

Before you log off:

1. Confirm your approved vacation dates
Double-check that your manager and anyone affected by your absence know exactly when you will be away and when you will return.

2. Finish your urgent tasks
Complete anything that cannot reasonably wait until you return. Do not leave avoidable emergencies for your colleagues.

3. Create a clear handover document
List your active tasks, current status, important deadlines, relevant links and the person responsible for each item while you are away.

4. Brief the person covering for you
Do not simply send them a document and disappear. Walk them through the most important tasks and answer their questions before you leave.

5. Inform key colleagues and clients
Let the people you regularly work with know that you will be unavailable. Redirect time-sensitive requests to the appropriate person.

6. Set a helpful out-of-office message
Include your return date, whether you will be checking emails and who should be contacted for urgent assistance.

7. Block your first day back
Avoid filling your return day with meetings. Give yourself time to review emails, receive updates and reorganize your priorities.

A good vacation handover protects your peace, supports your team and allows you to return without unnecessary chaos.

Which of these do you usually forget to do before going on vacation?

Moving to a new country is hard enough. Then you start a new job, and there's a whole set of unspoken rules to figure out.

What felt normal back home might not translate here.

Keep your hands to yourself. Compliment the work, not the person. Give people their space.

It's not about losing who you are. It's about learning the room you're in.

What's one workplace habit you had to unlearn or relearn abroad?
