Sunday action at Mufakose Area A for HPVL Week 5

Weekend action ends with Correctional Spikers the biggest winners.

HPVL Week 5 concluded with the men's volleyball rival reignited as NABA faced off UZ Wolves and it was not short of excitement and end to end stuff. UZ Wolves claimed the first set but NABA responded with some aggressive display and the momentum led them to take set 3. Nigel Kadumba and team then turned the tables to take it to a decider. UZ Wolves with a youthful team raced to 15 points first but the hurdles from NABA play meant they had to sweat for it. A 3-2 set win for UZ Wolves. On the other side, Correctional Spikers had a match with Chapungu and yes a match for both teams to get points. However, rotational error early in the first set saw Chapungu who were down 4-8 before the scorer and second referee saw the error and Chapungu had to lose the four points. Correctional Spikers then took an advantage of a fuming team and took 25-10. Chapungu in the second set got even angry with the calls from the referee going against them and even had the captain given a yellow for his protests. They fought hard to stay in the set but eventually lost 28-26. The third set seemed even but Correctional Spikers edged the set 25-22 to claim all points. Earlier in the day, Correctional Spikers won against Old Hararians while NABA took 2 points in a 3-2 win against Chapungu. Old Hararians claimed all 3 points against Harare Poly.

In the ladies category, Harare City had a tough morning against Chapungu but managed to take a 3-1 win. The match of the day was between Harare City and UZ Wolves with both teams aiming to take all points. The Jonathan Gava coached team unfortunately fell short in the decider but credit went to coach Fortune who was hands on in pushing his young team to victory. The afternoon match between UZ Wolves and Chapungu had a lot of drama with Chapungu claiming the first set before they lost the following sets to lose 1-3. Coach Barnes was not happy with the result but was giving praises for the effort the young team as well gave in the court.

With HPVL Week 5 closing, attention turns to the ZPVL in Marondera but action returns on 5/6 September at Mufakose Area A with the ladies finishing off their second rounds matches. For the men, it's now Super 6 with championship bracket and consolation bracket for the bottom 4 teams. Action galore in September as the race to be crowned champion of HPVL continues......
