CHAPUNGU COMPLETES GWERU DERBY DOUBLE IN STYLE

Chapungu Football Club underlined their dominance over Midlands State University FC with a commanding 4–1 victory in the Gweru Derby at Ascot Stadium this afternoon, completing a league double over their spirited neighbours.

The result follows Chapungu's 3–0 victory in the reverse fixture at MSU on April 19, meaning the Waru Waru boys have scored seven goals and conceded just one across the two derby encounters this season.

Farawu Matare opened the scoring in the 20th minute, tapping home a well-delivered cross before turning provider on the stroke of halftime, when his pinpoint delivery found Edward 'Kariba' Watson, who headed home to make it 2–0.

Two minutes after the restart, Thulani Ndimande rose highest to head home Tafadzwa Marufu's well-weighted free kick and extend Chapungu's advantage.

MSU FC pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 80th minute after Tanaka Zingwe was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box, but Chapungu remained composed and sealed victory in the 90th minute when Marufu powered home at the near post following a defence-splitting pass from Brian 'Smesh' Ndlovu.

The result reflected Chapungu's attacking efficiency, tactical discipline and collective composure, particularly after MSU's late response.

Credit to MSU FC for their spirited and competitive performance throughout the derby.

A heartfelt to the Chapungu faithfuls who thronged Ascot Stadium in to rally behind Head Coach Tererai Zinyowera and his charges.

Focus now shifts to Matchday 22, with Chapungu travelling to Zvishavane to face Shabanie Mine Football Club at Maglas Stadium on Wednesday (August 26, 2026). Kick-off is at 1500hrs.

CHAPUNGU BACK TO WINNING WAYS IN STYLE

Chapungu Football Club returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, overcoming a determined Vhembe Stars Academy 4–0 in a crucial ZIFA Central Region Soccer League Matchday 19 game in hand at Ascot Stadium this afternoon.

The complexion of the contest changed in the 20th minute when the Vhembe Stars goalkeeper was shown a red card for denying Farawu Matare a clear goalscoring opportunity after bringing down the Chapungu new signing just outside the box.

Chapungu made the numerical advantage count eleven minutes later when Madlenkosi Gasela calmly finished a pinpoint cut-back from Matare to give the hosts a 1–0 lead at the break.

The Waru Waru continued to apply pressure after the interval and doubled their advantage in the 70th minute. Edward 'Kariba' Watson beat his marker before unselfishly squaring the ball to Brandon 'Szoboszlai' Manyenyawo, who calmly converted from close range.

Watson then added his name to the scoresheet in the 77th minute, confidently dispatching a penalty after a Vhembe Stars defender handled the ball inside the box.

Manyenyawo completed his brace four minutes later, rising superbly to head home a well-delivered corner from Brian 'Smesh' Ndlovu and cap a commanding Chapungu performance.

Despite the difficult circumstances, Vhembe Stars FC showed commendable fighting spirit and determination, and Chapungu FC acknowledges the visitors for a competitive contest.

A heartfelt to the Chapungu FC faithful who thronged Ascot Stadium and provided the support and energy that inspired the team to victory.
