Team Zambia has concluded its campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and is expected back in Zambia on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, arriving at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 13:00 hours.

The team returns with two bronze medals, courtesy of outstanding boxing performances by Catherine Mwape and Emmanuel Katema, while athletes across athletics, swimming, judo, and lawn bowls represented the nation with determination, resilience, and pride.

OYDC Zambia was proudly represented at the Games by Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Tembo and Board Chairperson Chance Kabaghe, who joined fellow Zambians in Glasgow to support Team Zambia throughout the competition. Their presence reflected OYDC Zambia's continued commitment to promoting sport and encouraging athletes competing on the international stage.

As the team returns home, the nation celebrates the athletes, coaches, officials, and support staff for their dedication and hard work in representing Zambia with distinction.

With Glasgow 2026 now behind us, the journey continues as Team Zambia begins preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, India.

TEAM ZAMBIA CONCLUDES GLASGOW 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Team Zambia’s participation at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games came to end on 1 August 2026, with lawn bowls and athletics providing the nation’s final appearances as the Games concluded in Glasgow.

In the women’s singles lawn bowls competition, Mildred Mkandawire concluded Zambia’s campaign with a straight-sets defeat to Emma Firyana Saroji of Malaysia, losing 9-3 in the opening set and 18-2 in the second.

Earlier in the competition, Mkandawire also suffered straight-sets defeats to Amy Williams of Wales and Nayanmoni Saikia of India. Her only victory came against Caroline Whitehead of the Isle of Man, whom she defeated in straight sets, winning 9-6 and 9-3. She finished the round-robin competition with one win and four losses.

Meanwhile, Team Zambia’s 4x400m mixed relay team of Emeldah Kapunjila, Niddy Mingilishi, Kennedy Luchembe and Patrick Nyambe did not finish the race after Luchembe sustained a muscle pull during his leg of the relay, forcing him to stop before completing the event.

The lawn bowls and mixed relay events marked Team Zambia’s final appearances at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, bringing the nation’s campaign to a close.

TEULINGS YOUTH SPORTS CHALLENGE: FOOTBALL ACTION DELIVERS EXCITEMENT AS BASEBALL5 ALSO TAKES CENTRE STAGE

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge continued to showcase exciting young talent as football teams battled for crucial victories in both the girls' and boys' categories, while Baseball5 teams also kept fans entertained with another round of competitive matches.

In the girls' competition, Olympic Flying Queens claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Zanimuone Girls in a closely contested encounter. Ubuntu Girls were in dominant form, producing a commanding 5-0 win over Olympafrica Queens to underline their title ambitions.

The boys' division also produced thrilling contests. OYDC Boys secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Telos Academy after a disciplined performance at both ends of the pitch. Olympafrica Boys and Ubuntu Boys shared the spoils in an entertaining 1-1 draw, with neither side able to find a decisive winner.

In the Under-15 category, Beacon of Hope edged Mighty Rangers 2-1 in a hard-fought contest to collect all three points after an impressive display of determination and teamwork.

Away from the football fields, the excitement continued as Baseball5 matches were also played, with teams demonstrating skill, speed and teamwork in another action-packed day of competition. The fast-growing sport continues to attract enthusiastic participation from young athletes throughout the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.

The competition resumes with more fixtures across various sports as young athletes continue to develop their talents and compete in one of Zambia's premier youth multi-sport development programmes.

Team Zambia has concluded its judo campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with Rita Kabinda -63kg delivering the country’s best performance in the sport.

Kabinda impressed throughout the competition, winning her opening two contests to secure a place in the semi-finals. She was, however, defeated by Canada’s Laurence Biron, dropping into the bronze medal contest.

In the bronze medal contest, Kabinda faced Nigeria’s Enku Ekuta, daughter of former African judo champion Ewa Ekuta. Despite a spirited performance, Kabinda narrowly missed out on a podium finish, ending her Commonwealth Games campaign in fifth place.

In the men’s events, John Kapungwe -73kg bowed out in the preliminary round after losing to Repiyallage Chamara of Sri Lanka. Andrew Sande -90kg also exited in the preliminary round following defeat to Rémi Feuillet of Mauritius.

The Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia has commended all five judokas and the coaching staff for their commitment, resilience and dedication in representing the nation at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, wishing them continued success in future competitions.

Samukonga Grateful for Zambia's Support

Despite missing out on a medal in the Men's 400m final, Team Zambia's Muzala Samukonga has thanked Zambians for standing by him throughout his title defence at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The reigning Commonwealth champion finished sixth in 45.61 seconds before sharing a heartfelt message on social media:

"Thank you for your love and support, Mother Zambia 🇿🇲. Unfortunately, we didn't bring it back home."
