Zambia Baseball & Softball Association Strengthens Grassroots Development Through Teulings Youth Sports Challenge

Since its introduction to the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge, the Zambia Baseball & Softball Association (ZBSA) continues to make significant strides in developing young talent through its active participation in the Teulings Youth league, a flagship grassroots sports development programme hosted by OYDC Zambia.

The association has embraced the Teulings Youth league platform as an important avenue for identifying, nurturing and preparing young athletes for higher levels of competition. The inclusion of Baseball5 has expanded opportunities for children and young people to participate in an exciting, fast-paced version of the sport while promoting teamwork, discipline and physical fitness.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge has become a cornerstone of youth sports development in Zambia, providing regular competition and quality coaching to hundreds of athletes across different sporting disciplines. For the Zambia Baseball & Softball Association, the league has created a structured pathway for talent identification, enabling coaches to monitor player development throughout the season and prepare athletes for national and international competitions.

Young players participating in the league continue to demonstrate remarkable improvement in their technical skills, tactical awareness and understanding of the game. Through consistent training sessions and competitive fixtures, the athletes are gaining valuable experience that is strengthening Zambia's baseball and softball development programme.

Teulings Youth Sports Challenge Week 5 Delivers Exciting Weekend of Multi-Sport Action.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge continued to inspire young athletes during an action-packed Week 5, with participants competing across football, netball, Baseball5, and boxing. The weekend once again highlighted the project's commitment to youth development through sport, providing a platform for talent to grow, compete, and excel.

The football fixtures produced exciting encounters in both the girls' and boys' categories, with several teams delivering impressive performances.

Zanimuone Girls defeated Ubuntu Girls 2-0, securing an important victory through disciplined defending and clinical finishing with Olympic Flying Queens produced the biggest result of the weekend with a commanding 7-0 victory over Olympafrica Queens, showcasing their attacking strength and teamwork.

Boys' Category saw OYDC Boys and Olympafrica Boys sharing the spoils in a closely contested 1-1 draw, with both teams displaying determination and resilience. Telos Academy edged Beacon of Hope 2-1 in an entertaining contest that remained competitive until the final whistle. Mighty Rangers earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ubuntu Boys, continuing their impressive run in the competition.

Beyond football, the weekend programme also featured netball, Baseball5, and boxing, giving hundreds of young athletes the opportunity to develop their skills, compete in a positive environment, and strengthen values such as discipline, teamwork, respect, and resilience.

The Teulings Youth Sports Challenge continues to provide an inclusive platform where young people from different communities can discover and nurture their sporting potential while promoting healthy lifestyles and social development.

As the competition moves into the next round of fixtures, anticipation continues to grow, with teams determined to improve their performances and climb the standings in what has become one of the most exciting youth sporting initiatives in the region.

OYDC Zambia proudly congratulates our Sports Development Committee Chairperson, Assistant Superintendent Mabvuto Ng'uni, on his well-deserved promotion from Chief Inspector to Assistant Superintendent.

Beyond his distinguished career in law enforcement, Assistant Superintendent Ng'uni has been an invaluable leader within Zambia's sporting fraternity. As a respected leader in the Judo community and Chairperson of the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Committee, he has consistently demonstrated passion, discipline, and a strong commitment to developing young athletes and advancing sport as a tool for youth empowerment.
