LUPOPO CAME WITH ANOTHER EXAM PAPER , KANSANSHI ALMOST PASSED IT!

FT: Kansanshi Dynamos 1–2 FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo

Remember when we said Lupopo were moving around Zambia conducting preseason examinations? Well, they reached Solwezi and found Kansanshi Dynamos ready to answer some questions.

Kansanshi scored first and competed well before losing concentration late in the second half, allowing the Congolese side to turn the game around with two goals.

Lupopo head coach Rachid Ghaflaoui was impressed with the opposition.

“This was a good game. Kansanshi gave us a tough game and it was good for us. We have only had 22 days of training, so these competitive games are important for us.”

Kansanshi assistant coach Yoram Kasempa, taking charge with the head coach away on national duty, also saw plenty of positives despite the defeat.

“We started well, but unfortunately we lost concentration around the 75th minute. We created chances but didn't convert them. Technically, they looked dangerous when they attacked, but from my analysis we are getting there.”

He was also clear about where Kansanshi must improve:

“We need to do better in the striking force. We need to do better in scoring.”

And that is exactly why you invite Lupopo instead of looking for someone you can comfortably beat 6–0.

Kansanshi have gone from winning the FQM Challenge Cup to being seriously tested by Lupopo. No panic required , take the lessons, sharpen the finishing and work on those final 15 minutes.

The examination was difficult, but that is exactly what preseason is for.

At least Kansanshi chose a teacher who marks strictly.

As we say in Chewa:

Pulumira adadya gaga.

The one who rushes ends up eating husks.

There is no need for Kansanshi to rush their development because of one friendly defeat. The important thing is to use these difficult games to correct weaknesses before the Transitional Season begins.

THE JOURNEY BEGINS , POWER DYNAMOS OFF TO RWANDA!

The airport pictures have arrived, the bags are packed and Zambia’s flag is officially on the move.

Power Dynamos have departed for Rwanda to begin their 2026/27 CAF Champions League campaign, where they will face Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh in the first preliminary round.

This is where all the weeks of preparation, friendly matches, tactical experiments and squad building must now come together. The yellow shirts, tracksuits and smiles at the airport tell the story of a team travelling with confidence , but continental football will demand much more once the whistle blows.

Power are not newcomers to this road. Their experience from last season’s CAF Champions League campaign should help them understand the importance of managing the away leg: remain disciplined, avoid unnecessary mistakes and return home with the tie firmly within reach.

Al-Merrikh may be Sudanese, but Rwanda will provide the battleground. Power must quickly adjust to the conditions and remember that CAF football is rarely won through reputation , it is won through concentration, courage and taking chances when they arrive.

The mission is straightforward: survive the first examination in Rwanda, complete the job in Zambia and move one step closer to another appearance in the group stage.

As the Chewa say:

every journey forward begins with one step.

For Power Dynamos, that first step has now been taken.

The friendlies are behind us. The preparations are almost complete. Now every training session, every conversation and every decision at Red Arrows is about FC Rouge.

Saturday. 15:00hrs. Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

And from today, the supporters also have a job.
Don't wait for Saturday morning to start asking who is going. Call your friend today. Plan your movement today. Find something red today.

Red Arrows will provide the eleven on the pitch , we must help provide the 12th player in the stands.

This is CAF football. Madagascar's FC Rouge are not travelling to Zambia for sightseeing. They are coming to compete, and Levy Mwanawasa must remind them that this is an away fixture.

As we say in Chewa:

“Mutu umodzi susenza denga.”

One head cannot carry a roof.

The players cannot build the Red Fortress alone. The supporters have their part to play.

This is the one we have been waiting for.

The preparations have been made, friendly matches played and combinations tested. Now the date that matters is confirmed.

From here, the conversation changes. No more preparation stories. It is now about ex*****on.

Red Arrows have had enough time to prepare for this moment, but CAF football is a different examination. At home, playing well is not enough , you must make the advantage count.

And this cannot be left to the eleven players.

Levy Mwanawasa must become a Red Fortress. Wear red, bring a friend and make noise. FC Rouge must feel from the first whistle that although Red Arrows have travelled from Lusaka, they are very much at home in Ndola.

As we say in Chewa:

“Kukoma kwa nkuyu, m’kati.”

The sweetness of a fig is discovered inside.

We have seen the friendlies, heard about the preparations and watched the combinations being tested. Now comes the real examination. We will only know how ready Red Arrows truly are when the whistle blows against FC Rouge.

The die is cast. The friendlies have served their purpose. Africa is calling , can the Airmen turn Levy Mwanawasa into a fortress and finish the first job at home?

FOREVER CHASWE! , SOME NAMES SIMPLY REFUSE TO DIE

Perhaps this is the most beautiful part of Chaswe Nsofwa's story.

Almost two decades after his passing, thousands of kilometres away from Zambia, Hapoel Be'er Sheva supporters still remember their Zambian striker.

Look closely at the stands.

Among the sea of red, there is a simple but powerful message:

“FOREVER CHASWE!”

Chaswe was not at Be'er Sheva for years. His time there was heartbreakingly short. He had only just arrived, announced himself with goals and suddenly, on 29 August 2007, football lost him at only 28.

Yet somehow, in that short period, he entered the hearts of those supporters.

Years have passed. Players have come and gone. Coaches have changed. Generations of supporters have entered those terraces.

But Chaswe remains.

And maybe this photograph teaches us something beautiful about football: legacy is not always measured by how long you stayed. Sometimes it is measured by what you left in people's hearts.

From Lusaka to Be'er Sheva, they still remember.

As we say in Chewa:

“Munthu amafa, koma dzina lake silifa.”

A person may die, but their name does not die.

Chaswe left this world far too early, but look at those terraces all these years later. His supporters are still raising his name. His number may no longer be on the pitch, but his memory is still very much in the stadium.

Some footballers leave clubs. Others leave memories. Chaswe left a legacy.

THE LEAGUE IS NOT UNTIL 3RD OCTOBER , SO WHY NOT GET CREATIVE WITH SEPTEMBER?

We still have a full month of September before the ZPL Transitional Season kicks off on 3rd October, with the Charity Shield scheduled for 19th September.

So expect to hear one football word repeatedly in the coming weeks:

FRIENDLY. FRIENDLY. FRIENDLY. 😂

But here is an idea.

Instead of clubs playing isolated friendly after isolated friendly throughout September, why not organise small preseason tournaments?

Four clubs can come together for a weekend tournament. Six clubs can organise something similar to what we recently saw in Kabwe. Another group could even create a small preseason league running for two or three weekends.

We have already seen clubs such as Power Dynamos, ZESCO United, Red Arrows and AS Simba involved in a competitive four-team tournament. Kabwe also gave us that enjoyable six-team competition eventually won by Forest Myooye.

Those games suddenly have a little more meaning. There is a table, qualification, a final, perhaps a small trophy and supporters also have something interesting to follow.

Because there is another danger.

If you spend the whole of September playing ordinary friendlies, eventually even the players can become tired of hearing:

“Don't worry, it's just a friendly.”

Use this unusually long preseason creatively. Invite teams from different divisions. Organise four-team and six-team competitions. Provincial associations and sponsors can even come on board.

After all, 3rd October is still some distance away.

Don't just count the days. Use them.

As we say in Chewa:

Kudandaula sikutha njala koma kusunja.

Complaining does not end hunger; working does.

This mwans that Clubs have a long September ahead of them. Rather than complaining about the delayed league start or playing endless repetitive friendlies, they can create competitive preseason programmes that keep players sharp and supporters interested.

MEET BLESSED : FOOTBALL CONNECTED THE DOTS

So this is Blessed, a young man I met in Kabwe during the ordination.

From the moment we met, he was unusually excited to see me, and for a while I was wondering, “But how does this young man know me like this?”

Then he mentioned football and suddenly everything made sense!

Blessed is passionate about the beautiful game and is also building his own football page. I always enjoy seeing young people taking an interest in football media and trying to grow something of their own.
