MATHEWS BANDA: RISING TO THE OCCASION

Kanshi Dynamos’ Left-Back is One to Watch in the Transitional League

Finding a stable, modern left-back in Zambian football has become a big challenge, both at club and national team level. A full-back who is solid defensively and still adds real quality in attack is rare. Kansanshi Dynamos believe they have a rough diamond 💎 in Mathews Banda.

Career Path
Commonly known as _“GAZA”_, Mathews Banda’s journey shows steady growth. He previously featured for Sable Bulls FC, before moving to Young Red Arrows FC and later Young Zanaco FC. From Young Zanaco, he made the big step up to Mighty Mufulira Wanderers, where he established himself as a Premier League player.

Banda joined Kansanshi Dynamos FC at the start of the 2025/2026 MTN Super League season, but had to wait for his chance. He made his Dynamos debut in the second half of the campaign, against Kabwe Warriors.

Impact in the Second Round
Once he got in, he didn’t look back. Banda played *16 out of 17 games* in the second round and scored 2 goals, playing a key role in helping Kansanshi Dynamos stay up in the Premier League.

He’s the type of full-back who is constantly on the move, up and down the flanks with energy.Defensively, he’s very solid, strong in 1v1 situations, and reads the game well. *Going forward*, his crossing ability stands out, and he’s also a proven *set-piece specialist*.

With that mix of defensive discipline, attacking output, and set-piece delivery, Mathews Banda is one player to monitor closely in the upcoming transitional season. He’s a modern full-back with a very high ceiling.

Samson Ngoma The Rough Diamond Holding Airport Warriors Together

Zambia’s Division One has a young defender making quiet waves, and his name is Samson Ngoma. The Airport Warriors center back is already earning the tag “rough diamond” — raw and tough, but with all the right pieces to shine with time.

Samson is a modern defender. While his natural position is center back, he’s comfortable dropping to full back or sitting in front of the defense as a holding midfielder. That versatility gives his coach options, and it’s rare to find at this level. On the ball he’s calm and decent, and physically he’s solid — strong in the air, tough in duels, and quick enough to recover when the line is broken.

His consistency this season tells the story. He featured in 33 games during the 2025/2026 campaign, a sign of trust from the technical bench and proof of his durability at the heart of defense.

His football education started at Precision Academy, a grassroots setup known for discipline and hard work. Those values show in his game. He later spent six months with Zimbabwe Saints FC, and that taste of football outside Zambia added maturity to his game. Back home now with Airport Warriors, he’s anchoring the backline week in, week out.

What makes Samson worth watching is his balance. He doesn’t just defend — he reads the game, stays composed under pressure, and puts his body on the line for the team. He’s still developing, but the foundation is there. With consistent game time and the right guidance, he has the profile to climb beyond Division One.

Age is on his side, and the attitude looks right. The next year or two will decide how far this rough diamond can go.
