On behalf of the Handball Association of Zambia, and on my own behalf, I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia.

This renewed mandate is a reflection of the confidence and trust that the people of Zambia have placed in your leadership. We commend your continued commitment to national development, youth empowerment, and the advancement of sport as an important tool for unity and national pride.

Your previous term saw significant milestones for handball in Zambia, including the country’s successful hosting of the 2026 Men’s IHF Trophy, a moment that placed Zambian handball firmly on the continental map. We are encouraged by the opportunity to build on that momentum as we prepare to host the IHF Women’s Senior Trophy Zone VI Africa Championship this September at OYDC, Lusaka.

As the Handball Association of Zambia, we look forward to continued collaboration with Government, sports federations, development partners and the private sector in strengthening handball at grassroots and high-performance levels alike, and in creating sustainable opportunities for young athletes across the country.

​Building on the landmark success of hosting the 2026 Men’s IHF Trophy, HAZ is preparing to host the IHF Women’s Senior Trophy Zone VI Africa Championship at the OYDC in Lusaka this September.

The Association remains committed to partnering with the Government, sports federations, development partners, and the private sector to elevate handball from the grassroots level to elite competition while creating sustainable opportunities for young athletes across the nation.

​Handball Association of Zambia Celebrates National Sporting Excellence at Medal Presentation Ceremony

​LUSAKA – July 15, 2026 — The Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) proudly joined the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, and fellow National Sports Associations for a momentous Medal Presentation Ceremony celebrating Zambia's unprecedented sporting success.
​As an active partner in the growth of Zambian sport, HAZ echoes the sentiments of NOCZ President Alfred Foloko in commending the Government for its unwavering commitment to empowering national sports associations and creating international pathways for our athletes.

​A Historic Milestone for Team Zambia
​During the ceremony, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe revealed a staggering achievement that underscores the rapid growth of sports in our nation. Between January and July 2026, Team Zambia has captured an incredible 155 medals across various local and international competitions:

​45 Gold Medals
​44 Silver Medals
​66 Bronze Medals

​"This remarkable haul is a testament to the dedication, discipline, and determination of our athletes, coaches, and administrators working in unison." — Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe.

​Strengthening the Collaborative Ecosystem
​National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Director/CEO Sombwa Musunsa highlighted that these landmark achievements are a direct result of a highly collaborative ecosystem. The Handball Association of Zambia remains deeply grateful for the continuous support provided to sports federations across the country, which has allowed our handball players and other national athletes to flourish on the international stage.

​The event was well-attended by key sports stakeholders, including NOCZ Secretary General/CEO Boniface Kambikambi, NOCZ Treasurer Victor Banda, corporate partners, and fellow government officials.

INAUGURATION OF THE NEW HEADQUARTERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL HANDBALL FEDERATION: MUSTAPHA BERRAF GUEST OF HONOUR

Mustapha BERRAF, President of ANOCA and IOC Member, attended the inauguration of the new headquarters of the International Handball Federation in Basel.

The event was also attended by Hassan MOUSTAFA, President of the IHF, Thomas Bach, Honorary President of the IOC, and the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Egypt.

A working meeting, concerning the upcoming 2027 African Games in Cairo, was held between the ANOCA President and the Minister of Youth and Sports.

An atmosphere of calm and camaraderie prevailed, leading to a perfect understanding between the two figures, who are both former national team athletes.

A further meeting has been agreed for Cairo in June 2026.
