πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡² ZAMBIA COACH LAZAROUS TEMBO ANNOUNCES 20-MEMBER PROVISIONAL SQUAD

Zambia National Netball Team Head Coach Lazarous Tembo has announced a 20-member provisional squad that will begin preparations for the Africa Netball World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled for 19th–26th September 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The squad is a blend of experienced players and emerging young talent, as Zambia begins preparations for the crucial continental qualifiers.

Regional club champions Green Buffaloes provide the largest contingent with seven players, followed by Prison Leopards with five, while COSANA Senior Club Championship runners-up NAPSA have contributed four players.

The selection comes shortly after the COSANA Club Championships in Harare, where Green Buffaloes were crowned champions and NAPSA finished runners-up, giving several players valuable regional competition experience.

The remaining players come from Nkwazi, Red Arrows, United Stars and Zimbabwean club Makate High Flyers, adding further depth to the provisional squad.

Coach Lazarous Tembo will now lead the team into preparations as Zambia looks to put together a strong side capable of securing qualification for the Netball World Cup.

NETBALL ZAMBIA PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES GREEN BUFFALOES ON COSANA SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TRIUMPH

Lusaka, Zambia – 20 July 2026

Netball Zambia President Martha Lungu Sichone has congratulated Green Buffaloes Netball Club for being crowned champions of the 2026 Confederation of Southern Africa Netball Associations (COSANA) Senior Club Championship following an impressive 45-31 victory over fellow Zambian side NAPSA Netball Club in the final held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

In a congratulatory message, Sichone has described Green Buffaloes' achievement as a proud moment for Zambian netball and a testament to the country's growing strength at club level.

"On behalf of the Netball Zambia Executive Committee and the entire netball fraternity, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Green Buffaloes Netball Club on winning the 2026 COSANA Senior Club Championship. This remarkable achievement reflects the hard work, discipline, commitment and determination displayed by the players, technical bench and club management throughout the tournament."

The Netball Zambia President has also commended NAPSA Netball Club for finishing as runners-up, noting that the all-Zambian final highlighted the continued growth and competitiveness of the country's domestic clubs.

"I also congratulate NAPSA Netball Club for an outstanding campaign that saw them finish as runners-up. Having two Zambian clubs contest the final is a clear demonstration of the progress our clubs have made and the high standard of netball being played in Zambia. It is a proud moment for our nation and for the sport."

Sichone has further praised Kitwe Rifles Netball Club, who reached the quarter-finals, and Green Eagles Netball Club, who competed with determination despite exiting the tournament at the group stage.

"Special recognition goes to Kitwe Rifles and Green Eagles for representing Zambia with commitment, resilience and professionalism. While every team had different outcomes, each club contributed to raising Zambia's profile and showcasing the talent, determination and fighting spirit that characterise our netball."

The Netball Zambia President said the outstanding performances by the four clubs provide a timely boost for the national team as it intensifies preparations for the Africa Netball Cup, which will be held in Kenya this September.

"The success of our clubs at the COSANA Championships is a major confidence booster for our national team ahead of the Africa Netball Cup in Kenya this September. Many of the players competing at club level form the backbone of the national team, and the experience gained from competing and excelling against the region's best will undoubtedly strengthen our preparations. We are optimistic that Zambia will carry this winning momentum into the continental competition."

Sichone has reaffirmed Netball Zambia's commitment to strengthening club netball as a pathway to sustained success for the national team.

"These achievements reaffirm the importance of investing in club development because strong clubs produce strong national teams. As a federation, we remain committed to creating more opportunities for our clubs, players and officials to compete at regional and international level as we continue building a competitive and successful netball programme."

The President has encouraged all four clubs to continue striving for excellence and thanked them for proudly representing Zambia on the regional stage.
