Meet Gloria. 🤍
Gloria joined the Chundukwa family as a rescue horse some time ago, and yesterday she experienced something very special… her very first safari - with Tanya Miller gently guiding her, Gloria took it all in with quiet curiosity - and by all accounts, she absolutely loved it.
Every great safari horse starts with trust, patience and confidence. There are no shortcuts here, just slow, steady, stress-free training that allows each horse to learn at their own pace. We can’t wait to watch Gloria’s journey unfold. ✨🐴

We’ve officially cracked open the first bottle of gin — safari season in the Simalaha has begun! 🍸🐎🌞
A huge welcome to our first riders of the season, and an extra special shout-out to Georgie Howe on her third visit to the Simalaha. We’re delighted to have you back in the saddle with us. 💛

29 horses returned safely to Simalaha this week! 🐎
If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know the story. There are no easy roads to Simalaha — many routes are impassable, and others simply don’t exist. So each season, we ride our herd up ourselves, crossing the landscape on horseback.
The journey takes us through local villages and communities, where we’re always met with curiosity, kindness and support. The horses travel together as a herd, and there’s something truly special about watching them move in unison (mostly! 🤣)
It’s hard work, but it’s also great fun — camping out under the stars, early sunrise starts and sharing the adventure with an incredible team. A huge thank you to Fred, Olivia and Tanya for the tremendous effort and dedication that helped the team bring all 29 horses safely to the Simalaha! Now, let’s get ready to ride!

Having spent years honing her skills, she brings fresh perspectives while already knowing what makes this place so special. We can’t wait for the season ahead, with Tanya riding alongside our guests and Doug, sharing unforgettable adventures through the wild landscapes we call home. Welcome back, Tanya! Steady, calm, gentle and forward-going, our horses are the heart of every safari. Carefully selected and trained by Doug and his team, they carry riders across the floodplains with confidence and ease.
Our riders often fall completely in love with their trusty steeds and many returning guests ask for the same horse year after year! Sweet. 🙏🐎✨

What does predator-free riding mean?
It means pure riding freedom.
Here, you’ll gallop across ancient floodplains without the concern of large predators, allowing both horses and riders to relax and enjoy the thrill of open country riding. With no roads, no traffic, and no other person in sight, you’ll explore 180,000 hectares of pristine Zambezi wilderness, where long canters and exhilarating gallops are all part of the adventure.
Whether you ride Western or English, our well-schooled horses are ready to show you a side of Zambia best experienced from the saddle.
