Devotional — The Blessing of Walking With God

Psalm 128 gives us a different picture of what it means to be blessed. Blessing is not simply getting what we want, winning every battle, or living without difficulty. Blessing begins with the direction of our lives.

The verse speaks about those who are loyal to the Lord and who walk in His ways. That word walk matters. Walking is something we do continuously. One step, then another. It is not a single emotional moment or one good decision. It is a way of living.

For us as Warriors, that speaks directly to character.

There will be days when training is difficult. Days when results do not go our way. Days when progress feels slow. There will be moments when nobody is watching and taking the easier path would cost us nothing publicly.

But faithfulness is built precisely in those moments.

Keep walking.

Walk in discipline when you don't feel motivated.
Walk in humility when you succeed.
Walk in integrity when nobody is watching.
Walk in courage when circumstances are difficult.
Walk with God when the road doesn't make sense yet.

Psalm 128 reminds us that God's blessing isn't reserved for people with perfect circumstances. It rests upon a life oriented toward Him.

And notice something powerful: the rest of Psalm 128 expands that blessing beyond the individual—to work, family, home, community and future generations. A faithful walk can therefore become bigger than ourselves.

That is an important lesson for a football club too.

We are not only building footballers. We are building young people whose choices can eventually influence families and communities. Every act of discipline, service, perseverance and faithfulness is another brick in something much larger.

So Sunday's challenge is simple:

Don't only ask God to bless the road you want to take. Choose to walk the road that honours Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your goodness and for the privilege of walking with You.

Teach us to be loyal to You not only when life is easy, but also when the road becomes difficult. Give us the discipline to follow Your ways when nobody is watching, the courage to continue when we become tired, and the humility to remember You when we succeed.

Bless our players, coaches, families and everyone connected to Wellington Warriors. May the work of our hands have purpose. May the character we develop be greater than the trophies we pursue.

Help us to become young men and women of integrity, discipline, courage and faith. Let the way we live today become a blessing to our families and to the generations that follow us.

Above everything else, keep our hearts close to You and our feet walking in Your ways.
