SAFA Cape Town has formally asked FIFA and SASCOC to intervene and postpone the SAFA Elective Congress scheduled for 12 September.

Regional president Bennett Bailey cites alleged electoral irregularities, conflict of interest, and inconsistent application of electoral rules.

The region alleges individuals aligned to candidates have been involved in electoral and vetting functions, and points to interventions in regions including Amajuba, Sarah Baartman, Northern Cape, Sedibeng and Capricorn.

They are demanding:
• Postponement of the Congress until integrity is established
• An independent audit of regional processes
• Interim independent oversight
• Re-running of compromised regional elections
• Exclusion of conflicted individuals from electoral functions

The presidential race is between incumbent Danny Jordaan, seeking a fourth term backed by the Football Transformation Forum, and AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu.

SAFA Cape Town says this is about protecting the institution, not choosing a candidate.

Newcomers made a strong statement on the opening weekend of the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Real Native, formerly Casric Stars, began with a 2-1 victory over Cape Town City.

Hope FC also marked their arrival with a win, defeating University of Pretoria 1-0 at Athlone Stadium thanks to debutant Tauric Gamildien. Newly-promoted North West University FC earned a point on their PSL debut with a 1-1 draw against Upington City.

Highbury FC and Magesi FC both started with away wins, while Leicesterford City secured a 1-0 home win over Orbit College.

Elsewhere, Venda Football Academy and Lerumo Lions drew 1-1, and Hungry Lions played to a 2-2 draw with Gomora United.
