Cycle Sunday is Durban’s inclusive, car-free community cycling event held on a closed section of the M4. 💥💥💥
It is deliberately not a race. It is a safe, welcoming space where children from age 8, together with their parents, can ride in a traffic-free environment, build confidence on a bike, and enjoy the coastal route as a family.🚴♂️🚴♀️
We are inviting schools from KZN to participate and are offering a R10 000 cash prize to the school that records the highest attendance✅️
Why this is valuable for your learners and families.
• Safe introduction to cycling – Many children never experience a car-free road. Cycle Sunday gives them exactly that space to ride, learn road awareness, and develop skills without pressure.
• Family participation – Parents , Teachers and children ride together. This creates shared positive experiences and strengthens the idea that cycling is a normal, enjoyable part of family life.
• Health and wellbeing – Regular cycling improves physical fitness, mental health and concentration – benefits that carry into the classroom.
• Active mobility culture – Schools that are seen encouraging cycling position themselves as progressive and community-minded. Learners and parents notice when their school supports healthy, sustainable activities.
• Fun and belonging – The event atmosphere is celebratory and inclusive. Children leave feeling proud to have taken part as part of their school group.
If your school would like to take part, we will make registration simple and provide any support needed for group co-ordination. The R10 000 prize is awarded purely on attendance numbers, so every Learner, Parent , Teacher who rides counts.
