CONFIDENCE IS A SKILL.

Train it.

This week's Women's Self-Defence preview looks at a practical response to being pinned against a wall.

Confidence isn't about never feeling afraid.

It's about having the skills to respond when it matters most.

DON'T RUSH THE PASS.

Sometimes the quickest way through is to slow down.

This week's Gi technique shows how getting comfortable in half guard, applying steady pressure, and waiting for the right moment creates the opening for a clean knee slice pass.

Patience creates opportunities.

STRONG WOMEN BUILD STRONG COMMUNITIES.

Every woman deserves to feel confident, capable, and prepared.

Our Women's Self-Defence programme is about more than learning techniques. It's about building confidence, developing practical skills, and training in an environment where women encourage one another to grow.

Every journey starts with a single step.

Here are a few moments from recent classes.

WE COMPETE. WE LEARN. WE GROW.

A huge well done to our two young competitors who represented Brothers in Grappling at the Mother City Junior Jiu-Jitsu League this weekend.

Stepping onto the competition mats takes a lot of courage. Every match is an opportunity to learn, grow, and become a little better than you were yesterday.

At Brothers in Grappling, we believe:

“You win, or you learn.”

We’re incredibly proud of both of you for your effort, determination, and sportsmanship. You represented the academy with pride, and that’s what matters most.

Well done—you’ve done Brothers in Grappling proud.

SUCCESS IS DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE.
For some, it's stepping onto the competition podium.
For others, it's walking through the doors for the very first time.
Some are learning self-defence.Some are building confidence. Some are getting fitter. Some are chasing their next belt.
No matter what brought you to our mats, we're grateful you're part of the Brothers in Grappling community.
Here's a look back at our journey together this year.

MOVE. CREATE SPACE. ESCAPE.

This week's preview is all about one simple principle:

If you stay where your attacker wants you, you're fighting their battle.

By changing the angle and creating space, you give yourself the opportunity to get away safely.

SHIFT THE BALANCE.

Small movements can create big opportunities.

This week's Gi technique is the John Wayne Sweep—a classic example of using timing, leverage, and positioning to put your opponent exactly where you want them.

Good Jiu-Jitsu isn't about working harder.
It's about working smarter.

CONFIDENCE STARTS WITH PREPARATION.

Last week our Women Only Self-Defence class worked on escaping a wall pin and taking control of the situation.

It’s not about being stronger.
It’s about learning practical skills, staying calm under pressure, and trusting your training.

Every class is a chance to build confidence, support one another, and become a little more capable than you were yesterday.

CREATE THE OPENING.

The smallest adjustment can create the biggest opportunity.

This week's No-Gi technique focuses on breaking the collar tie, finding the angle, and turning it into a single leg entry to a takedown.

Good Jiu-Jitsu isn't about forcing the technique—it's about recognising the moment to move.
