When you talk about dedication to the sport, Nabil Bassa AKA is your guy. Nabil and his team made the massive trek all the way from KZN to Cape Town with his legendary, lightning-fast turbocharged 20V AWD Mk1 Golf. a car that is an absolute crowd favorite and industry icon wherever it goes.
Arriving in Cape Town on Thursday, Nabil headed up to Saldanha on Friday night to do a few 400m shakedown runs, putting in the groundwork to get dialed in for Saturday’s main event, the 800m top-end drags.

Motorsport can be ruthless, though. A broken transfer case on Friday night threw a massive curveball into the weekend. Showing true local motorsport camaraderie, Cape Town’s own Royston Prestage stepped up, sourcing and delivering a replacement transfer case from Cape Town all the way to Saldanha, with the team ready to tackle the repair late into the night at the CPI West Coast Workshop to get the Mk1 back on track.

Despite all the effort, luck just wasn't on their side with the transfer cases having slight differences and they couldn't get her prepped in time for Saturday.
Nabil, we are deeply honored that you made the long trip down to support Saldanha Drags. Gutted that we didn't get to see that Mk1 stretch its legs on the 800m, but your passion, sportsmanship, and dedication are what make this community great. Cape Town respects the hustle!
