Article 340 : Unathi Fortune Batsile Molepolle: A Young Taekwondo Star Chasing Olympic Glory
At just 14 years old, Unathi Fortune Batsile Molepolle is already making remarkable progress in Taekwondo. Born in Mmakau Village. He completed his primary education at Sekwati Primary School and is currently a Grade 9 learner at Malatse Motsepe Secondary School.
Unathi's journey in martial arts began with the greatest influence in his life - his father, Master Sipho "Psyfo" Mbuli. Watching his father's discipline, confidence, and respect for others inspired him to pursue Taekwondo from a very young age. Seeing the positive impact the sport had on his father motivated Unathi to follow in his footsteps with the dream of one day representing South Africa on both the national and international stage.
He started training in 2016 at the age of five at Ramokoka Wonkwang Taekwondo Club in Rustenburg under the guidance of his father. His passion and commitment to the sport quickly became evident. In 2020, he continued his development at Ramogodi Taekwondo Club, where he trained under both Master Tshegofatso Moche and Master Sipho "Psyfo" Mbuli. During this period, he competed in two tournaments, earning an impressive gold medal (1st place) and silver medal (2nd place) in full-contact competition.
Throughout his Taekwondo journey, Unathi has successfully progressed through all the coloured belt gradings and has now achieved the Poom Black Belt (Red and Black Belt), placing him just one grading away from earning his first Dan Black Belt. He currently trains at Mmakau Taekwondo Club under the continued mentorship of his father in Mmakau Village.
His achievements include winning gold and silver medals in competition, earning numerous grading certificates throughout his martial arts journey, and being recognised as Best Athlete by the clubs where he has trained, namely Ramokoka Wonkwang Taekwondo Club, Ramogodi Taekwondo Club, and Mmakau Taekwondo Club.
Unathi also draws inspiration from CJ Nickolas, the renowned American Taekwondo athlete whose achievements continue to motivate young martial artists around the world. Inspired by his success, Unathi dreams of becoming a national athlete, representing South Africa at international competitions, and ultimately competing at the Olympic Games while proudly wearing the green and gold.
Through Taekwondo, Unathi has learned that success comes through sacrifice, discipline, consistency, and perseverance. He firmly believes that giving up is never an option and remains committed to working hard every day to become one of the greatest Taekwondo athletes of his generation.
