πŸͺ© A time was had just over the weeks ago with the girls, the g**s and the allies!! This was a moment to highlight one year of our efforts to curate safe spaces for the q***r community in Gqeberha! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

But another thing dolls, this was our chance to make our mark in a new community area of Gqeberha to share the world of vogue ballroom. After six weeks of workshops, we didn't only see a growing interest in the culture but also the dolls coming together, having conversations that we didn't know we needed.

We began to see the dolls coming together!

πŸ’‹That's what is missing in our city. That's what we bringing to the floor!

Keep up with KIX right here!πŸ’‹

We're switching things up at our next KDX Street Dance Session. πŸ”₯

As street dance culture in Gqeberha continues to grow, we also want to introduce more of the traditions that make this culture so exciting. This edition is all about Call-Outs, hosted by one of our long-standing community members, Lee-roy.🫡

A call-out isn't about disrespect β€” it's about respect. It's an opportunity to challenge someone who inspires you, someone you've always wanted to dance with, or simply someone who pushes you to become better. Sometimes it's friendly competition, sometimes it's settling a dance-related rivalry, but it's always about growth through the culture.

πŸ₯ŠHow it works:
β€’ Challenge any dancer you'd like to battle.
β€’ The person calling out sets the rules β€” choose the style, the music, the number of rounds, or mix it up.
β€’ Share the event poster to your feed and tag the dancer you're calling out, or tag them in the comments below this post. You can even add a short message with your challenge.
β€’ Prefer to keep it old school? Pull up to the session and call someone out in person.

The music will be curated around the dancers involved, with different styles and genres ready to keep the session flowing.

πŸ—“οΈ This Saturday, 11 July @ 3pm
πŸ“ Kings Beach Skate Park
🎫 FREE ENTRY | OPEN TO ALL

Hip Hop and Vogue has set foot on the NMU campus on Tuesday this week! KDX wrapped up another vol. 5 with the students at NMU which proved very fruitful, making us realising the importance of platforms especially ofr young students in our city.

For many in previous years, it was not easy to connect with dancers on campus because the access was not there. Because of the new found society, the Madibaz HIP HOP, we were able to find new talent amongst the youth of Gqeberha! This was a doorway for KDX to continue our mission to to rebuild the street dance culture in the city.

Now from here, we hope to see more faces, more platforms as connections and just more dancing!

When you're consistent, others see, others are inspired and some of them take the bold step to be a part of change!

As we get ready for KDX S3 [ vol. 5 | NMU Youth Day Edition ], we connected with the Madibaz Hip Hop Society yesterday and saw the community of dancers they have been building in the last year!

Shoutout to one of the KDX community members, Jas Paul, who has taken the initiative to embody hip hop culture "EACH ONE, TEACH ONE" at Nelson Mandela UniversityπŸ”₯ There were so hidden gems that were discovered in the three hours dance session that gave us a lot of hope for the growth of underground street dance in Gqeberha!

We cannot wait to see the students stepping onto the dance floor with us on Tuesday when we share and get together for vogue and hip hop classes🫡

✨ Our third KIKI workshop session was too cute!πŸ’‹

This past Saturday, we continued introducing Gqeberha to ballroom culture while exploring some of the categories featured at our upcoming Forces of Nature: A Kiki Ball, including Face, Runway, Vogue Femme and Drag Realness.

One of the biggest conversations of the day was learning how to connect the theme to the category by asking ourselves:

🌍🌬️πŸ”₯🌊 "How would this element walk?"

How does Fire walk a runway?
How does Water serve Face?
How does Earth transform through Drag Realness?

More importantly, these sessions continue to show why spaces like this matter. They create opportunities for the girls, the g**s, and the allies who come correct to learn, connect, and experience ballroom culture in a city where q***r spaces remain limited.

The conversations, laughter, and support shared in the room reminded us that ballroom is more than categories and trophies, it offers community, belonging, and chosen family.

And for Gqeberha, this is only the beginning.
