We caught up with Linda to learn a little more about her cross-country journey:

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ When did you start competing in Cross Country?
β€œI started just before Covid, but this is my first time competing again since then.”

πŸ… Is this your first year in the WPA Cross Country Team?
β€œYes, it is my first time!”

🌿 What do you enjoy most about Cross Country?
β€œRunning anywhere, as long as it’s not on the road!”

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸŠβ€β™€οΈ What other sporting disciplines do you participate in?
Linda also enjoys Laser Run, Biathle, Triathle, a little Biathlon, and Sprint Triathlon – a true multi-sport athlete! πŸ’ͺ

πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Another 70.3 Ironman β€” and a podium finish! πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ΏπŸ₯‰

We caught up with one of our incredible athletes after completing his third 70.3 Ironman, this time at Hradec KrΓ‘lovΓ© in the Czech Republic πŸ‡¨πŸ‡Ώ.

And what a result! πŸ‘ He finished 3rd in the Men’s 60–64 age category, earning a well-deserved spot on the podium! πŸ₯‰πŸ†

Here’s what he had to say about his journey:

πŸ… How many 70.3 Ironmans have you completed?
This was my third β€” Durban and Mossel Bay in 2025, followed by today’s race in Hradec KrΓ‘lovΓ©.

πŸ“… When did you do your first 70.3?
My first 70.3 was in Durban last year.

πŸ“ˆ How does this one compare to your first?
I was much better prepared this time and had a much better approach to nutrition, which made a big difference.

πŸ”₯ What was the toughest part of the race?
The run, as always! πŸ˜…πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ’‘ What advice would you give someone in your age category pursuing a similar goal?
β€œMaintain regular, year-round training in all three disciplines, especially your weakest one. Make your training enjoyable. We have such a unique benefit training in three disciplines. If you’re tired of training in one, you can do one of the others, or focus on gym or strength work. Everything helps towards your end goal.

Race regularly and as much as possible. I learn from every race and become more comfortable in each discipline and transitions.”

πŸ‘ Congratulations on an outstanding performance and a well-earned podium! πŸ₯‰

Your consistency, experience and commitment to improving with every race are truly inspiring.

Three disciplines. One goal. Keep showing up. πŸ’ͺπŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ *Outstanding Performances at the Elsies River 10 km!*πŸ†

We would like to congratulate two of our exceptional female athletes on their outstanding performances at the *Elsies River 10 km*.

*Jenny Close*, who will soon be celebrating her 49th birthday, secured an impressive double victory. She was the *first female athlete to cross the finish line*, completing the race in a remarkable *sub-40-minute time of 39:57*. She also claimed first place in the *Women’s 45–49 age category*.

Jenny currently holds a personal best of *39:41*, which she achieved the previous weekend at the *Pinelands 10 km*. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that her previous personal best of *39:44* had stood since 2012!

In Jenny’s own words:
β€œI think the 10 km is one of the toughest distances. Your heart rate is near maximum for the entire race. During a 5 km, I find the fourth kilometre tough. During a 10 km, I find kilometres five to nine tough!”

What a phenomenal achievement, Jenny! Your consistency, determination and continued improvement are truly inspiring. We are all in awe of you! πŸ‘

*Elmarie Coetzee* also delivered an exceptional performance, finishing in a time of *42:17*. She placed *fifth overall among the female athletes* and won the *Women’s 60–69 age category*.

Elmarie holds an impressive personal best of *37:45*, which she achieved at the age of 45. Remarkably, she only started participating in road races at the age of 40!

Like Jenny, Elmarie considers the 10 km to be one of the most challenging road-race distances due to the high pace that must be maintained throughout the race.

In her own words:
β€œGeen kans vir asem skep nie! πŸ˜„β€

Congratulations, Jenny and Elmarie! Your performances are a wonderful reflection of your dedication, perseverance and passion for the sport. We are incredibly proud of you both! πŸ…πŸ‘

Today, we would like to congratulate Charlene on completing her very first *Double Robben Island Crossing in skins* β€” an incredible achievement! πŸŒŠπŸŠβ€β™€οΈ

Despite experiencing severe asthma attacks during the return crossing, Charlene showed remarkable determination and resilience, finishing the challenge in an impressive time of *6:07 hours. She completed the crossing in water temperatures of just *13.5Β°C*, without the use of a wetsuit.

Charlene has previously completed two single Robben Island crossings, both in skins. Her preparation for this demanding double crossing included *15–20 km of swimming per week, with only *3–6 km completed in open water*.

What an outstanding display of courage, perseverance and mental strength. Congratulations, Charlene β€” we are incredibly proud of you! πŸ’™πŸ‘
