Q: Why event management?
People often ask me this question. It certainly wasn't for the money.
The truth is, most people only ever experience the finished product. They see the lights, the music, the speakers, the entertainment and the smiling guests. What they don't see is the thousands of decisions, moving parts and contingency plans that made that experience feel effortless.
That's the part I love.
I enjoy bringing order to chaos. I thrive under pressure, enjoy solving complex problems and genuinely get excited by finding practical solutions before anyone else even realises there's a problem. Some people call it stressful. I call it Tuesday.
Q: What do you bring to Flooid?
For me, great events are built on great relationships.
Whether I'm working with clients, suppliers or colleagues, I believe trust is the foundation of everything we do. I'm equally comfortable leading a team or rolling up my sleeves alongside one. I'm self-motivated, accountable and take ownership of every project I'm involved in.
More than anything, I bring energy and passion. Every event deserves to feel like the most important event in the room because, for that client, it is.
My goal is always simple: create exceptional experiences while making the process as seamless as possible for everyone involved.
Q: What is a career highlight for you?
After 25 years in the events industry (I'm not old, I just started young!), it's difficult to choose one standout project - but being part of the local delivery team for LIV Golf South Africa will always be one of the highlights of my career.
The scale, pace and operational complexity were unlike anything I'd experienced before. Working alongside an international organisation with incredibly high standards challenged us to elevate every aspect of our delivery.
What made the project special wasn't just the event itself, it was the collaboration. Multiple teams, suppliers and stakeholders had to operate as one. Success came down to meticulous planning, clear communication, robust systems and staying calm when the unexpected inevitably happened.
Watching a world-class event come together, knowing the countless hours of work that happened behind the scenes, reminded me why I love this industry.
Q: What would you say to someone wanting to get into events?
Be passionate.
Not interested. Not curious. Passionate.
Because you're not attending the party, you're creating it.
While everyone else is enjoying themselves, you're behind the scenes solving problems nobody knows exist, making hundreds of decisions and ensuring every guest has an incredible experience. It's hard work. It's demanding. It's unpredictable.
But if you love creating moments people will remember long after the lights go down, there's no better industry in the world.
