Working her way back from an injury layoff that disrupted her 2026 season, Geldenhuys dropped nearly a second and a half off the 56.92s mark she posted at the ATX Classic in her season opener on 20 June.

The South African sprinter dominated the field, finishing ahead of India’s Animesh Kujur, who took second in a personal best of 10.14s.

The performance moves him to number six on the world all-time list after pulling away from a world-class field on the home straight.

Jacory Patterson finished second in a season's best of 43.96 seconds, with Rai Benjamin taking third in 44.13 seconds. Matthew Hudson-Smith finished fourth in 44.22 seconds, just ahead of South Africa’s Zakithi Nene who crossed the line in 44.24 seconds for fifth.

Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has pulled out of the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships and will be sidelined for the rest of the year after suffering a serious hamstring tear.

The 18-year-old had set his sights on becoming a 200m under-20 world champion in the US in August.

But Gout will now be forced to watch the Eugene event from the sidelines after announcing the shock injury news in a social media post.

“Unfortunately I suffered an injury to my left hamstring last night at training in Brisbane,” Gout said on Instagram.

“I received this morning the MRI report, unfortunately the news is not good and I will not be able to compete in Eugene at the World U20 championships next month.”

Just two months after undergoing back surgery, South African Olympic javelin silver medalist Jo-Ané du Plessis is officially scheduled to make her highly anticipated return to competitive action at the Monaco Diamond League on 10 July.

The field in Monaco is loaded with elite talent, including world leader Yan Ziyi (CHN), Adriana Vilagoš (SRB), and world champion Haruka Kitaguchi (JPN).

Du Plessis heads into the circle with a personal best of 64.22m, ready to re-establish her footprint on the global stage following her recovery.
