✨ DANCER SPOTLIGHT: PAIGE ✨

This one is extra special because Paige has been part of Undulations since the very beginning ❤️ She joined our very first classes back in 2020, looking for something new, a little more confidence and a chance to meet new people. Years later, some of those people have become family - and Paige has gone from student to performer to now running her own classes in Johannesburg.

Over the years, she’s performed at multiple World Belly Dance Day events, Cape Town Oriental Dance Festivals, Miss Belly Dance South Africa and so many special performances in between. Watching her grow into the dancer and person she is today has been such a privilege.

But beyond everything she’s achieved in dance, Paige is simply one of the most beautiful and loving people I know. She has the biggest heart and is always there to support, encourage and care for the people around her - sometimes before you’ve even realised you need it. She is so deeply loved by all of us, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything she brings to our little dance family ❤️

Her advice to anyone nervous about their first class is a reflection of her own journey: it might feel strange at first, but give yourself the chance to discover what your body can do. The confidence, friendships and love for yourself that can grow along the way might just surprise you. ✨

From one of our very first dancers to now helping other women begin their own journeys - I couldn’t be prouder of you and I feel very lucky that belly dance brought you into all of our lives 💃❤️

You may have heard this word frequently in belly dance circles. Baladi comes from balad, a word that can refer to one’s country, town or homeland. In Egypt, it can describe things that feel local and rooted in everyday culture - from food and music to traditions and dance.

That sense of rootedness is important when we talk about Raqs Baladi. It comes from Egyptian social dance and community life.

That’s why learning the language behind this dance matters. The terms we use carry history, culture and meaning with them.

Understanding those roots helps us approach and share the dance we love with greater knowledge and respect. 🤍

✨ DANCER SPOTLIGHT: MONIQUE ✨

Meet our beautiful Monique! ❤️

If I had to describe Monique, it would be ☀️sunshine personified☀️. She’s the person making everyone laugh in rehearsals, cheering on the dancers around her and bringing so much warmth and love wherever she goes.

Monique started belly dancing just two years ago and in those two years, she has already taken to some incredible stages: performing at the WCCSS and Champion of Champions SADF competitions, Cape Town Oriental Dance Festival and Cape Town Carnival. I’ve loved watching her grow into the confident, joyful performer she is today. ✨

Her advice to anyone nervous about stepping into their first class: “Come as you are, laugh at yourself, enjoy the music and give yourself permission to be a beginner.” ❤️
