Is putting really the reason Tour players play slowly?
The Korn Ferry Tour’s relative speed-of-play data tells an interesting story.
Across 147 players, those who were fast on the greens were generally fast everywhere else. Players who were slow putting were typically slower throughout the hole—not just on the greens.

In other words, this dataset provides no evidence that a specific putting routine causes otherwise fast players to slow down.

If putting routines were the primary cause of slow play, you’d expect otherwise fast players to become slow only once they reached the green.

That’s not what the data shows.

The evidence suggests pace of play is primarily a player habit, not a putting habit.

What do you think—is slow play really about what happens on the green, or does it start much earlier in the hole?
