We have been working with this young lad for just under a year. He came to us when he was transitioning from Red to Orange ball; with skills that had already been embedded in him. We are taking the work forwards and he is already on a Green ball rallying fairly comfortably from the baseline… A shout out to for setting the framework!!! We work together with other coaches to give the best possible chance for players to excel…
Always follow/ close in on your drop shot to avoid this situation! After a good return, a little slip from the opponent gave rise to a drop shot. It was the perfect play; expecting the opponent not to get there, the positioning was exposed and opponent played an even better drop shot. It’s easy to point fingers at players and tell them what they don’t do right, while in the field of play, many emotions and options come up; being calm and executing a clear plan can be the difference. This is why as coaches, we need to continually improve ourselves in whatever way possible so as to help our players make good choices when faced with challenges. It’s easy to fix technique and what it should look like, but coaching for/ against a myriad of game situations needs an experienced coach who can work through this and know how to equip players with the necessary tools. Accepting we don’t know it all and also make poor choices is part of the process. Very rare to expose a deficiency, we always want to post the good and great sides. Take accountability and your medicine, you will be better for it!!! Agree or disagree in the comments!

It has been a busy tennis season for NGT players who have made waves on the Gauteng Central scene. Congratulations to our Under 16 A and B league teams who came 2nd in the Gold section and won the Silver section respectively. A further congratulations to academy players who were selected for U/13 and U/15 provincial teams. The work continues…

Great lessons learnt against the World #1 today. Can’t trade the experience for anything. 0-6 2-6 tennis lesson but super enjoyable!!! The heaviness of the clay and court craft required to navigate it, is something not to overlook. The Europeans dominate tennis because of this. Look forward to doing a series of lessons learnt posts after this tournament. Playing a guy who took a set off Nadal and Almagro in their prime years was a treat, although, the body is paying the ultimate price now!!!

After 3 days of waiting, finally made it on court and got through 1st match of the 2025 World Individual Championships (against Polish player- former 230 in the World in 35+ age group). Next up is the World #1 and top seed (from Spain).
