Golden City Rollers - Roller Derby League

Golden City Rollers is the only roller derby league in Johannesburg, South Africa. Founded in 2010

Sweaty long-weekend session with our L2’s, L3’s and A-levels today but we still make time to be cute ☺️

Throwing it back to 2023. 🔥🛼

Mercury Mayhem vs Chrome Chaos.
Bug Off vs Slamela Anderson.

A home game packed with big hits, big energy & plenty of derby action. Who is ready for another Saturday Night Roller Derby?

Different backgrounds. One community. 🇿🇦🛼

This Heritage Day, we celebrate what makes South Africa unique - & everyone who makes our community what it is.

All genders. All backgrounds. All identities. Everyone belongs on the track.

20/09/2026

We run. We skate. We move. We should all make it home. 🖤

Golden City Rollers stands in solidarity with every woman, athlete, runner and person in South Africa who is living with the fear of gender-based violence.

Our streets, tracks, parks and sporting spaces should be places where we find freedom, community and joy. Not places where women have to calculate the risk of simply being there.

We honour the women we have lost.
We stand with their families and communities.

And we stand together in demanding a South Africa where every woman can move freely and come home safely.

GBV is everyone’s fight. Silence is not solidarity. 🖤💜

Throwing it back to 2014, when Friday nights meant roller derby. 🛼💥

Back when we were still C-Max Roller Derby, another successful Friday Night themed bout saw the Shinorellas 💙 take on the Glitter Ponies 💗.

The teams were made up of a mix of C-Max players, bringing together plenty of familiar faces, OGs and some skaters who are still rolling with Golden City Rollers today.

Different names. Same track. Same chaos. Same love for the game.

Who can spot the familiar faces? 👀

Eight wheels. One track. A whole lot of chaos. 🛼🔥

Today’s open day was all about big hits & fast jams to Land Derby or forever now known as Sherby, meeting the team & getting some brand-new skaters rolling.

New faces, new skills, plenty of laughs & maybe a few “wait… I actually love this” moments.

Thanks to everyone who came through & gave roller derby a shot. 💥

Think you could handle it?
Come roll with us. Drop us a DM and we can get you in to the next L1 programme, kickstarting this coming week!

Girls fly off their skates, face or bum first. 😂🛼

Throwing it all the way back to 2013, when FHM came to watch C-max Roller Derby & discovered a sport most people in South Africa barely knew existed.

The article? A first-hand introduction to the speed, hits, chaos & complete unpredictability of a roller derby game.

Fast forward 13 years and C-max became Golden City Rollers - still rolling, still hitting, still building the sport and still giving people plenty to talk about.

Be part of the new legacy - join us at the Golden City Roller Derby Open Day, 13 September at 11:00. All welcome. Mandeville Sports Centre.

Funny how far we’ve come. 🖤

Veins of gold. Hearts of steel. 🛼💛

What a way to christen our new home.

A huge thank you to every fan, friend, family member, official, volunteer, NSO, referee & skater who made our first bout at Mandeville one to remember. After a nail-biting battle right to the final whistle, Team Red edged out Team White 80-59 🔥

🏆 MVP Jammers: Iron Tyrant & Slamela Anderson
🏆 MVP Blockers: Dolly Spartan & Suzi Quattro

This was more than a game - it was the start of a new chapter. Thank you for being part of it.
