Only 3 Weeks to Go – Join Us in Making a Difference
In just three weeks’ time, our final-year PGA Diploma students will proudly host the BSI Charity Golf Day at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club on Friday, 31 July 2026.

This year’s event is especially close to our hearts. While previous Charity Golf Days have supported various cancer charities, this year the cause is deeply personal. One of our own BSI PGA Diploma students has had to put his studies and dream of a career in the golf industry on hold while undergoing cancer treatment.
In an inspiring show of compassion and unity, our third-year PGA Diploma students have committed to donating every rand raised towards supporting their fellow student and helping ease the financial burden of his treatment and recovery.

We need your support.

BSI graduate appointed as Golf Director at Royal Johannesburg

Balderstone Sports Institute proudly congratulates PGA Diploma graduate Carl Nebbeling on his appointment as Golf Director at Royal Johannesburg.

Carl graduated from BSI in 2016, finishing top of his class, and has gone on to build an outstanding career in the golf industry.

His journey has included roles at Magaliespark Resort, Eye of Africa Golf Estate, Quick Golf South Africa, as well as experience at the Joburg Open, Sunshine Tour and European Tour events.

Carl’s appointment is another example of how BSI’s PGA Diploma equips students with the knowledge, practical experience and industry connections to build successful careers in golf. We are incredibly proud to see one of our graduates taking on such a prestigious leadership role at one of South Africa’s most iconic golf clubs.

Congratulations, Carl. We wish you every success in this exciting new chapter and look forward to seeing your continued impact on the South African golf industry.

We are delighted to announce our latest recruit CJ Pretorius, who has committed to our full-time Junior Golf Academy from grade 8 in January 2027.

CJ is a talented and hard working young player who has already represented Ekurhuleni Golf Union.

“Following our walkthrough the other day and getting some further information about your institution, it became an option for Grd8 next year and to join the Golf Academy full time. After lots of thought, we have decided BSI would be our best choice and maximize his opportunites in highschool. Myself and Megan are really impressed with the professionalism in which your staff run your Institution. At BSI, our student-athletes specialize in one sport, their chosen sport,
from grade 8 onwards. This aligns with worldwide best practice for the optimal age window for specialization in youth sport.

Our full-time academy programs combine quality schooling (with international curricula) with intensive sports training programs and support designed to take youth athletes to high performance level.

With an in-house coaching and support staff including PGA Coaches, Sports Scientist and Mental Coach, the BSI Junior Golf Academy provides the optimal environment for developing talented players to their potential. Add in membership and weekly tournaments at Royal Johannesburg and you have everything in place for success.

Our student-athletes come from all over the world, with many representing their countries on the international stage.

Our alumni include a DP World Tour winner, and hundreds of other success stories around the world.

A fond farewell to Coach Chalton 💙⛳

As Chalton Steyn prepares to begin an exciting new chapter in Vietnam, we chat with him and reflect on his journey at BSI.

From BSI PGA Diploma student, to Intern Coach, heading out into the golf industry, then returning as a High Performance Coach to contribute to the latest generation of BSI talent.

Now onto an international adventure, Chalton’s journey shows exactly what is possible for those who come through BSI’s academy system.

In this special 3-part video series, you’ll hear from Chalton himself, as well as two of the students whose lives and golf have been impacted by his coaching, mentorship, and dedication.
