There was a post a while ago by a fitness instructor who made comments about how people should look a certain way if they are teaching something. I dont follow her on social media but I heard about it via friends. It really struck a cord within me, you dont have to skinny to be a chef, you dont have to beautiful to sing. And of course you dont have to be slim to be a yoga instructor.

I have been teaching yoga for 6 years and each week I teach and practise between 4 - 7 classes a week. Not because I want to be skinny, but because I want to be strong, in body and mind. I want to be flexible in how I approach the world, I want to be more centered and calm in difficult times, which in life there are many. I want to remember to stop, to focus on my breathe and relax when times get tough. Knowing that the pain doesnt last forever and that if we allow ourselves to soften and return to our centre, we will feel safe again. 💚

I have been going through a rough time with my health, which I will share in another post, when Im ready. After seeing a Dr at the ER they told me 'no more yoga'. I cried all the way home and then some more when my head hit the pillow that night. It felt like my lifeline had been violentry ripped from my hands. Someone who suffers with depression and anxiety, yoga has been an incredible balm for me, it is a practise which grounds me, centres me and keeps me on a steady path, heart, mind, body and soul functioning in unison.

When I booked myself into a facility after burnout two years ago, I will never forget that feeling of not being in control of my mind. It was one of the scariest feelings I have ever experienced. And if I cant practise yoga, what would become of me?

I teach yoga because it has healed me, it continues to repair parts of me that are struggling and not fully in the light. It aids me in discovering new pieces of my soul every time I step on the mat. It is my magic elixir that I just cannot live without.

It may sound silly, but for those of you have found a practise that gives you that sense of alignment, will know exactly what I mean.

Thankfully after a few more sessions with various healing practitioners over the past month, I was given the go ahead to continue doing yoga. I screamed and laughed and shouted after the news. My practise could continue. My growth could continue, my life, could continue, my journey with yoga could continue. 🥰

I teach because I am the living proof that yoga works, I teach because yoga is a sacred practise and I want others to feel the benefits. I see it in their faces, I hear it in their gratitude and I feel it deep in my soul that this is medicine.

So yes I may not look the part, I dont have a six pack, I dont have a small waist, but my heart is big and the space I hold for those wanting to learn is forever expanding.

Thank you to all the incredible souls I meet along the way, for choosing me (the fat yogi) to guide you on this mystical journey, deep into yourself.

Sending you so much love from my incredibly grateful heartspace to yours beautifuls souls. 💚💚💚

I have one framed image of my Dad in my house. This was taken on a camping trip that we went on in Mozambique when I was about 16 years old.

I have so many fond memories from that holiday, one in particular was when Dad called me to go out for a ride on the boat, just the two of us. I was super excited to get some Daddy and Daughter time on the water. No fishing, no people interrupting our conversations, just us. We raced through the lagoon, laughing and chatting away until the boat suddenly shuddered and gave out a final explosive fart then stopped in the middle of the lagoon.

Loe and behold the boat had run out of fuel, Dad didn't check to see the gauge before we set off. He cursed my brother as obviously it couldn't be his fault 🤣 and we sat there bobbing in the water contemplating our fate. At least 2 kilometers from the shore neither of us I opted for a swim back.

Thankfully another boat came to our rescue and towed us back to shore, with a fun story to share around the fire that night and my brother getting his ass handed to him.

Dad has been gone for 26 years years now and the loss still hits me like a ton of bricks some days. Grief is not something that ever leaves us, I believe we just learn to grow around it, to hold it, to nurture it. And allow it to remind us that the pain we feel is a reminder of the love that we felt in their presence and carry with us each and every day.

I still feel him near me, he still shows up in my dreams and I often hear his words and laughter come out of my mouth. He was not perfect, but he was my Dad and I was his Tumbletops ❤️

Memories of nights around open fires, the jokes he would make, the best bear hugs on the planet and the sound of his voice singing Puff the magic dragon will always drift through my heart and soul in a sweet reverbaration. 🥰

Happy Fathers Day Dad 💙💙💙 You are loved and missed, always.

Happy father's day to all the specials souls out there that are biological Dads, unbiological Dads, Moms that have to take on the Dad role. Most importantly, the human beings that just show up and step up every single day to help guide, nurture, love and support children. You are seen, you are important and you are changing the future generations.

May your day be filled will so much love, kindess and joy!!!

Sending waves of love from my heartspace to yours 💙💙💙

Fascia is the only system in the human body that exists in direct relationship with every other system and structure in the body.

Blood.
Fluid.
Muscle.
Bone.
Organs.
Nerves.
Breath.
Movement.

Everything is held within and communicated through the fascial web.

If you change the fascia, you influence the entire body.

Fascia is far more than connective tissue. It is the body’s living matrix, intelligent, adaptive, responsive, and constantly communicating with every aspect of our human experience.

It holds the record.

Our injuries.
Our emotions.
Our trauma.
Our conditioning.
Our stress patterns.
Our posture.
Our movement.
Our survival responses.
Our stories.

Fascia IS the body that keeps the score.

The body remembers everything the mind attempts to forget.

Fascia is true muscle memory. It remembers every repetition, every compensation, every contraction, every movement pattern and coordination practiced throughout a lifetime.

What we live through becomes embodied.

This is why deep fascial work can create emotional release. Why breathwork can unlock grief. Why trauma lives in the body long after the event has passed. Why nervous system regulation changes physical structure. Why movement, bodywork, yoga, somatics, touch, and breath can create profound shifts simultaneously across the mind, body, and spirit.

Fascia is not only physical.

Emerging research into fascia’s conductive, piezoelectric, and liquid crystalline properties is beginning to echo what ancient healing systems have understood for centuries: the body is not separate parts. It is an interconnected field of communication, energy, intelligence, and consciousness.

Fascia is the bridge between body and spirit. The interface between energy and matter. The architecture of human experience itself.

Our fascia is our Matrix!

Anyone else not mentally or emotionally prepared for this winter? 🤣🥶 The cold weather sucks!

Aah well at least I get to wear my unicorn beanie on the coldest of days with no shame or f's to give!!! 🦄 🤣

I have to share a story about a lovely lady who contacted me a while back searching for some relief from the pain she has been living with for years. After a serious car accident and being hit on the right hand side, that entire side of her body has been in a spasm. She has seen all the doctors and physios and and and to assist her with her pain and their final conclusion was this. There is nothing more they can do to help her and they suggested botox injections into her body which would cost R6500 a pop and they would need to be repeated every six months!!! Like what the actual??? How is the medical industry suggesting such BS and not helping her fix the real issue? That is just a plaster! 🤯

Because they do not know much about fascia and the power it holds. Fascia is a pretty new buzz word in the health industry and when they did their studies it wasnt around.

After just one session my client had a massive aha moment. Using the tools made her realise that she has found the issue and can now help repair her body and bring it back into alignment and start living pain free!! 🥳🩷

She has opted to come for a few private sessions to learn exactly what to do, so she can buy the kit and do the unwinding at home. This is exactly why I love myofascial release, its not a permanent thing that you spend money on and constantly come back for more and more sessions, throwing your cash down the drain.

Its a powerful practise that you can do in the privacy of your own home, whenever the bodies starts to whisper 'look here I need some TLC'. All it does is put you back in the driver's seat so you can manage and reduce your pain, stiffness and knots yourself!!! Plus you have the added benefit of relieving anxiety, improving flexibility, calming the nervous system and working through old traumas that the body is still holding onto.

Now tell me thats not a win win situation? 😍

If you are interested in learning more, you are welcome to reach out to me and book a private session or join one of my monthly group classes.

072 541 8499 📞

Take your power back people and lets heal our bodies together.

Have a super duper friday and the BEST weekend ahead!

Sending so much love from my heartspace to yours, stay awesome, oh and warm 🤣! 💙
