Shoutout to Daniel Kvalsvig for these absolutely epic shots taken on film during our Mnweni Circuit back in June 🥾
There’s something about shooting the Drakensberg on film that just works. The grain, the colours, the slightly imperfect look of every frame somehow suits the Berg perfectly. No endless burst mode, no taking 47 photos and picking the least questionable one afterwards. You press the shutter, hope for the best and find out later whether you’ve captured a masterpiece or someone blinking halfway through the photo 😂
And Mnweni certainly isn’t a bad subject to work with. Huge valleys, towering cliffs, mountain passes, caves, wild camps and enough dramatic scenery to burn through a few rolls of film very quickly.
Safe to say these came out ridiculously well.
Thanks again Daniel for capturing the trip in a slightly different way. Definitely some of our favourite photos from that hike.

A few photos from this past weekend’s hike up to Tugela Falls and the mountains certainly gave us a bit of everything⛰️
Thanks to the recent snowfall and subsequent melt, Tugela was actually flowing surprisingly well considering we’re still in the dry season. It’s always a treat seeing a decent amount of water coming over the edge at this time of year especially with the last bits of winter still hanging around on the surrounding peaks 😮💨
Day one was a little more entertaining with some properly windy conditions on top of the Amphitheatre. Nothing quite like pitching a tent while the Berg attempts to relocate it to another province. Thankfully during the night the wind completely died down and by morning we were treated to absolutely incredible conditions for the hike back.
If you’ve been wanting to experience Tugela Falls for yourself, we’re even running a New Year’s overnight hike from 31 December to 1 January. Personally we can think of worse ways to start 2027 than waking up on top of the Amphitheatre 😎
We’ll take care of the gear, meals, permits and logistics. You just need to show up ready to walk uphill and tolerate the occasional terrible dad joke.
