Golf and leadership have more in common than you think.
Last week I ran a Moment of Impact Experience for heads of schools as part of the Principals’ Tee-Off roadshow with Schoolscape.
We talked about staying in your optimal zone - not shutting down, not overreacting, but leading from a place of clarity under pressure.
One idea that I spoke about was that the faster things move, the more alignment matters, not less.
In golf, a full swing happens at real speed. If your alignment is off even slightly at that speed, the miss is bigger.
Leading a school (or any team) right now is no different. The pace hasn’t slowed down for anyone. And when everything is moving fast, small misalignments — with yourself, with your team, cost more than they used to.
So the real question isn’t “how do I do more, faster.” It’s: where are your transition moments in the week, the small resets that let you realign before you swing again?
That’s where the power, energy and creativity actually come from.
Grateful to the Tandi McCallum and the golf coaching team at The Country Club Johannesburg for bringing the activation to life, and to Schoolscape for creating the space for principals to be poured into for once, not just pouring out.
More of these on the way. What a joy!
