Welcome to the Nedbank Running Club East London (NRCEL), a branch of the successful National running club. We are a cheerful young green family, excited to grow and develop runners, as well as spot potential talent in the Border region. The Nedbank Running Club is one of the largest national clubs in South Africa, with approximately 4500 members located across several provinces. In the Border regi
on, NRCEL was established in 2016 and reached a peak of 200 members in 2019. Compared to some other clubs, our demographic profile is diverse and attracts members from different backgrounds and social class levels. With a focus on runners, both seasoned and beginner, the NRCEL family creates an atmosphere of encouragement, friendship, training, fun, and camaraderie within the East London running community! Apart from being part of a national running club that typically wins the Two Oceans and Comrades Ultra marathons, other benefits of becoming a Nedbank member include the support one gets after finishing major international events, in which members are treated to free eats, drinks, massages, and other goodies from our sponsors. NRCEL also hosts a gazebo at most of the popular local races. The NRCEL family creates an atmosphere of encouragement, training, fun and camaraderie within the East London running community! We cater to all levels (elite, beginner, social) and disciplines of runners (e.g. T&F, trail, road), and provide our members with specific training sessions (track, hills, beach, etc.) We also host a 5km and 8.5km time trial every Wednesday from Beacon Bay Country Club, which starts strictly at 17:40 (mass start). One of our major goals, which sets NRCEL apart from most clubs, is to spot talent in the region and give such runners an opportunity to further develop and expose their talent by supporting them financially. In this regard, we have our own Elite team, and in 2019 and 2022, the top three athletes who represented the Border province to finish in the Comrades Ultra Marathon were members of NRCEL, which was also the club that brought home the most silver medal finishers for Border province. Based on our selection, we have an elite/development team that receives free membership, entries into certain races, and where possible, financial support for travel and accommodation, vitamin supplements, and shoes from our sponsors. In this regard, our club is affiliated with several organisations that make this possible and contribute to the financial sustainability of the club, for which we are very grateful. We are excited to welcome you be part of our diverse club to see what all the hype is about - and for you to see for yourself why it's time to start kitting out in the green vests! Indeed, the grass is greener on the other side 😜
