The Old Selbornian Bowling Club Dewar Memorial Ladies Spring Tournament was held on Saturday, 5 September — and, much to everyone’s delight, the rain decided to stay away!

It may have been a little chilly, but that certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the 96 ladies who joined us for a wonderful day of bowls, laughter, friendship and a whole lot of camaraderie.

And then there was the high tea! Served between the first and second games, it was the perfect opportunity to warm up, enjoy some delicious treats and recharge for the second round action. We definitely pulled out all the stops!

A big thank you to every team who joined us and helped make the day so special. And, of course, a huge thank you to our organising committee — what a fantastic job!

Nobody went home empty-handed, with prizes for every team and cash prizes for our top three teams.

We are also incredibly grateful to our wonderful sponsors for their generous support. Without them, days like this simply wouldn’t be possible.

We hope all the bowlers had as much fun as we did and that you'll be back on the greens next year for another fabulous Spring Tournament!

Our 44th Old Selbornian Bowling Club Men’s Classic was a great success, despite some challenging weather conditions.

Saturday brought temperatures of 33°C 🌞, while Sunday saw some rain 🌧️ — but thankfully, neither the heat nor the rain could dampen the camaraderie and good bowling throughout the weekend!

A huge well done to Andrew Moorcroft and his committee for hosting such a well-organised and successful tournament.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all our sponsors for their generous support. A special thank you to our main sponsors, Code Blue Alarms and BuCo, and to every sponsor who contributed towards making this event possible. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps make tournaments like this a success.

And finally, thank you to all the players, supporters and volunteers who helped make the Classic such an enjoyable and memorable weekend!

Well done, everyone!

A lovely turnout of 36 bowlers at our regular Tuesday morning Tabs-in Social Bowls!

It’s wonderful to see a full green of bowlers enjoying themselves.
What a great way to spend a Tuesday morning!

Club Drawn Pairs Competition

A great day of bowls, with competitive play and plenty of camaraderie!

Congratulations to Andrew Milwidsky & Sibulele Stemele on winning the final against Reg Brummer & Hanlie Bassingthwaighte. Reg and Hanlie fought back to 11–12 going into the last end, but Andrew and Sibs held on to take the win!

Well done to everyone who participated, and thank you to Andrew Moorcroft for organising the competition!

🔥🎯 THE HARDEST OPPONENT YOU’LL EVER FACE IN LAWN BOWLS… IS YOU.

It’s not always the bowler standing at the other end of the rink. 👀

It’s the voice in your head after a bad bowl.
The frustration after a missed shot.
The pressure when the game gets tight.
The temptation to doubt yourself.

Your biggest opponent is standing on the mat… wearing your shoes. 👟💚

The moment you learn to control your thoughts, reset after mistakes and trust your next bowl — your game changes. 💪🔥

🏆 BE YOUR BEST OPPONENT.
🎯 Play the game.
🧠 Master yourself.

👇 BOWLERS — what’s harder to master: the green or your own mind?

🚨 KNOW THE RULES — DON’T LET A 10-MINUTE ABSENCE COST YOU THE GAME! 🕙🟢

What happens when a player needs to leave the green during play? 🤔 And when can a substitute step in?

Law 32 makes it clear — and there are some VERY important consequences every bowler should know! 👀

🎯 Key points:
👉 You may only leave with your opponent’s agreement — for no more than 10 minutes.
👉 If you can’t return due to illness or another reasonable cause, a substitute may be approved.
👉 A substitute cannot play skip.
👉 No eligible substitute in a team game? You could forfeit the game. 😳
👉 In Singles, if you cannot return within 10 minutes, you forfeit the game.

💬 QUESTION FOR THE BOWLERS:
Have you ever played in a match where a substitute had to be brought in? What happened? 👇

📌 SAVE • SHARE • TAG A BOWLER
Knowing the Laws could save your game one day!

⚖️ Know the Rules. Play the Game. Enjoy the Sport. 💚

🔥 PRESSURE DOESN’T ALWAYS CHANGE YOU… SOMETIMES IT INTRODUCES YOU TO YOURSELF. 🎯

20–20.
One bowl left.
One decision.
One moment where there’s nowhere to hide. 👀

That’s when lawn bowls becomes about so much more than technique.

Can you quiet the noise?
Can you commit to the line?
Can you trust your weight?
And most importantly… can you trust YOURSELF? 💪🔥

Pressure has a funny way of stripping everything back. No excuses. No pretending. Just you, your bowl, and your belief.

You won’t always deliver the perfect bowl — but every pressure moment teaches you something about the player, and the person, you’re becoming. 💚

💬 BOWLERS — BE HONEST:
When it’s 20–20 and you’re holding the last bowl…
👇 Do you LOVE the pressure or FEEL the pressure?

Tag the bowler who somehow becomes more dangerous when the pressure is on! 🎯😎
