Today would have been Carel’s birthday.

It’s difficult to believe it has been five years since he's passing. He's coined the nickname Raas-Bekkie, for his unique persona behind the microphone...it was where he felt most at home.

Some people leave memories behind, and some leave a little bit of themselves, in the people they associated with. Carel certainly did that.

For many of us at Tygerberg MTB, thinking of Carel Bezuidenhoud brings a smile - the voice, the humour, the character, and those moments on and around the trails that made him…..well, him.

On what would have been your birthday, we thank you again for all the great times you brought us - you are still remembered, still missed, and still part of the Tygerberg MTB family 💙

🚵‍♂️🔥 BLOEMENDAL IS RACE DAY READY 🔥🚵‍♀️

This Saturday, the Lower Bloemendal trails will once again come alive with the energy of school MTB racing, as it hosts the final event of the Western Cape Schools Cycling series.

Most of the trails on lower Bloemendal Trail Park will be used for the day's various age category events, and off-limits for normal use from Friday at 13h00, to end of Saturday - please plan your riding along other venues.

We encourage you to come cheering these young riders, competing for their schools, chasing their goals and having a whole lot of fun along the way.

For many members there's a trail your wheels probably have not rolled on yet. Upper Bloemendal has a hidden gem of a loop - natural trails which combines sections such as Akkedis, Bloemendal Theatre and "Cannonball" (unofficially named). In this loop there are a few steep and punchy climbs, but the views and flow that follow, make the effort entirely worth it. Make sure to head out there soon to experience it for yourself.

Tomorrow is officially Spring Day, which means more daylight, warmer mornings and the perfect excuse to spend even more time on the trails. 🌸☀️ It also means that we're all about to say "I'm not unfit... I just can't breathe because of this flipping pollen." 😂

So from tomorrow, remember your Spring riding essentials:

😎 Sunglasses - preferably
🤧 Antihistamines - now more essential than your favorite gels.

It is that time again, where the worlds best mountain-bikers compete for the coveted "Rainbow Stripes" in various disciplines, and being crowned the title of World Champion. A feat that our very own Alan Hatherly managed to do for the last two consecutive years in the XCO discipline.

The world stage awaits, and we’re behind Team South Africa all the way! 💪🔥 We wish our juniors and elites competing at the 2026 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships all the very best. Ride with passion, ride with fight, but most importantly enjoy the privilege of wearing that green and gold 🇿🇦
