Playoff preparations continue. 💪🔴⚪

Highlanders Football Academy continued its preparations for the Hollywoodbets KZN Regional League Promotion Playoffs today with a practice match against a strong Zonal League side. The match ended 2–0 in favour of Highlanders football Academy “Uhlweza Lwabantu”, but the result does not define our journey.

Every training session and every match is an opportunity to improve, learn, and grow stronger. We remain focused, united, and determined to give everything for the badge. When the playoffs begin, we will step onto the field ready to fight with pride, passion, and belief.

Today, Highlanders Football Academy proudly celebrates the birthday of one of our longest-serving and most dedicated players, Avela Maphalala.

When the academy was rebuilt in 2018, we launched Vision 2027 a long-term development plan with the ambition of becoming, by 2027, one of the most respected and recognised football academies, renowned for developing high-quality players capable of competing in the highest levels of the game, including the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), South Africa’s junior national teams, and professional football.

Avela was among the very first group of players to embrace that vision. From the beginning, he understood what it truly meant to wear the Highlanders badge, and he has remained committed to that vision every step of the way.

Over the years, Avela has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment, discipline, humility, professionalism, and an outstanding work ethic. His dedication on the training ground, respect for his teammates and coaches, and willingness to continuously improve have made him an excellent role model for the younger generation. He has never stopped working hard, always arriving prepared, maintaining high standards, and leading by example.

Above all, Avela is a player of exceptional character. His honesty, discipline, and integrity have defined his journey at Highlanders Football Academy. He never asks others to uphold standards that he is not prepared to live by himself. He leads through his actions, earning the respect and admiration of everyone around him. Both on and off the field, he proudly represents the values, culture, and identity of our academy.

As captain, Avela has led Highlanders Football Academy with dignity, responsibility, integrity, and pride. His leadership extends far beyond football, inspiring his teammates through his character, consistency, and unwavering commitment to the team’s success.

Watching his journey from a young boy with a dream to the respected leader he is today has been a privilege. His growth is a true reflection of what can be achieved through patience, sacrifice, discipline, and trust in the development process.

Ayabonga is one of the most fearless young players in our Under-13 squad. Since joining Highlanders Football Academy earlier this year, he has shown tremendous improvement through hard work, commitment, and a willingness to learn every day.

Playing as a left back, Ayabonga continues to grow in confidence, defending with courage and giving his best for the team whenever he steps onto the pitch. His attitude and determination are exactly what we look for in a young footballer.

We strongly believe that if he stays humble, disciplined, and continues working hard, Ayabonga has the potential to become one of the outstanding left backs everyone will be talking about over the next five years.
