On clay courts, timing is everything. 🎾🧱

One of the biggest keys to effective movement is getting the outside leg set first into the slide before making contact with the ball, rather than sliding after the shot. This creates better balance, stability, and allows players to transfer energy efficiently through the stroke.

Here, Kamil demonstrates this perfectly. After spending more time competing and training on clay, his movement has improved tremendously, and it's showing in his results. πŸ‘

Master the movement, trust the slide, and let the clay work for you.

πŸ”₯ Great work, Kamil. Keep building!

πŸ“ˆ Forehand Preparation Tip of the Week! 🎾

One of the keys to a powerful and effortless forehand is getting the elbow away from the body during preparation. This creates space, allows for better leg drive, and helps load the body like a spring. The result? More elasticity, more racket speed, and a much more explosive forehand! πŸ’₯

Watch how Michelle has improved her swing by focusing on this important detail. Her preparation is cleaner, her timing is better, and she's generating far more power through the ball.

Remember, great technique and the right equipment go hand in hand. The experts at Laffies Gear can help you find the perfect racket for your playing style so you can get the most out of your game.

🎾 Why Doubles Matters More Than You Think! 🎾

Many players focus only on singles, but doubles can be a game-changer for your tennis journey.

βœ… A second income stream – More opportunities to earn prize money and compete.
βœ… 25% of your junior ranking comes from doubles results.
βœ… College coaches recruit for BOTH singles and doubles – being a strong doubles player makes you far more valuable to a team.

In this video, we cover 3 key doubles drills:

🎯 Move with your partner and follow the ball – stay connected and cover the court together.
🎯 How to dominate the middle – the most important area in doubles.
🎯 Get your net player involved – move forward, stay active, and look for opportunities to attack balls through the middle.

Great doubles teams don't just hit great shotsβ€”they move, communicate, and work as one unit.

🎾 Keep it simple. Keep it fun. Keep it effective.

One of the biggest secrets to coaching young children is using simple keywords they can remember instantly.

πŸ™Œ Forehand = "High Five" + "Turn"
πŸ›Ή Backhand = "Skateboard" + "Turn Side On"

Instead of long technical explanations, we give kids a picture in their minds. Look how quickly the girls in this video understand the positions and movements!

At this age, tennis should be about:
βœ… Fun
βœ… Confidence
βœ… Movement
βœ… Competitions
βœ… Targets
βœ… Rewards

Tell them when they're doing well. Celebrate the small wins. Create games and challenges that keep them engaged and excited to come back for more.

Equipment is just as important as coaching.

In this video, the girls are using:
🎾 A 21-inch junior racket
🎾 A 23-inch junior racket
πŸ”΄ Red stage balls

Red balls are softer, slower, and lower bouncing, giving young players more time to react and learn proper technique. Combined with the correct racket size and court dimensions, children can rally sooner, build confidence faster, and enjoy the game from day one.

Too often kids are given the wrong equipment and expected to play adult tennis. The right equipment makes a massive difference to their development.

Need help choosing the correct racket, balls, shoes, or junior equipment?

The team at Laffies Gear can help guide you. We believe every child should start with the right gear for their age and stage.

Trust the experts.

Kholo Montsi Ranking Update 🚨🎾

What a season it has been.

At the start of this run, the goal was clear: push towards the Top 600 in the world. Unfortunately, the final two Challenger events on the schedule were cancelled, but that doesn't take away from what has been an outstanding season for Kholo Montsi.

His results over the past few months have shown exactly why he is one of South Africa's most exciting tennis players:

πŸ† Back-to-back 15K Singles Titles in Hillcrest
πŸ† 25K Doubles Champion
πŸ”₯ ATP Challenger Singles Semifinalist
πŸ”₯ Two ATP Challenger Doubles Semifinals
πŸ”₯ Consistently competing and winning against high-level international opposition

These performances have earned Kholo a new career milestone:

πŸ“ˆ ATP WORLD RANKING #725

Behind every ranking point is a lot of unseen work. The early mornings, the fitness sessions, the travel, the sacrifices, the tough losses, and the determination to come back stronger every single day.

At JL's Tennis Academy and JL's Racquet Sports, we are proud to be part of that journey. Our goal has always been to create an environment where players can develop, compete, and chase their dreams at the highest level. Seeing players like Kholo continue to climb the rankings is proof that South African players can compete with the best in the world.

If you've ever watched Kholo train, you'll know that talent is only part of the story. The commitment, professionalism, and willingness to improve every day are what separate great players from the rest.

Come visit us at our new JL's Racquet Sports venue in Modderfontein, where top players like Kholo Montsi and Devin Badenhorst train. Whether you're a beginner, junior, competitive player, or simply love the game, we have courts, coaching, a clubhouse, coffee, and a fully stocked pro shop to help you improve your tennis experience.

A special mention to Laffies Gear for supporting players with expert equipment advice, professional racket setups, and some of the best stringing services in South Africa. The right equipment matters, and we're proud to help players perform at their best.

The journey continues. Top 725 today. The next goal starts now. πŸ’ͺ🎾

🎾 Most tennis players lose points because they change direction too early.

The court looks open down the line, but that doesn't mean you should go there.

The best players stay patient. They trust their crosscourt target, build the point, and wait until they have EARNED the short ball.

A quality crosscourt ball is often far more effective than trying to force a winner into an open corner. Keep pushing your opponent wider and deeper until they're in trouble. Only then should you look to change direction.

And when you do go down the line, it needs to have purpose. Put a punch on it. If the ball is too soft, you've simply opened the court for your opponent and made yourself do all the running.

βœ… Stay crosscourt.
βœ… Build the point.
βœ… Earn the short ball.
βœ… Attack when the opportunity is there.

Patience wins more matches than low-percentage shot making.
