SHAD RIGS
Shad can be targeted using several different methods, depending on the conditions and the angler's preference.
When fishing with bait, there are three popular trace variations:
1. Drift Bait Trace
Many anglers prefer a drift bait setup, where a ball sinker runs freely on the line. This allows the bait to move naturally with the current, often resulting in more confident takes.
2. Top Bunk Trace
A favourite when fishing rocky areas. The float keeps the bait elevated, reducing snags while allowing anglers to visually monitor their bait and detect bites more easily.
3. Standard Shad Trace
A versatile setup that can be fished with either a running or fixed sinker, with or without a a float to present the bait effectively. White and red floats are commonly used depending on conditions and visibility.
The Loomis & Franklin Super Shad Hooks (3/0 – 5/0) have been one of the standout products of this year's shad run. Their sharpness, strength and consistent hook-up ratio have been proven day after day on the water, making them a trusted choice for anglers targeting shad along our coastline.
