A Fallow Deer Hunt With a Difference 🦌

Just 30 minutes from our base at Lalapa Safaris, and you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped into another part of the world.

Tall forests, thick vegetation and open farmland make this fallow deer hunt completely different from the traditional image of hunting in Africa.

That’s what makes the Eastern Cape so special. Within a relatively small area, the terrain and vegetation can change completely from bushveld and open plains to mountains, valleys and these almost European style forests.

This hunt captures a little of that diversity, plenty of glassing, stalking and hunting on foot in beautiful country.

We’re incredibly fortunate to hunt in a part of the Eastern Cape where kudu still roam freely across big, wild country. These bulls were all taken free range and fair chase this month…..hunted the way we believe kudu should be hunted.

We don’t like making big claims about what we have at Lalapa. We’d rather let the hunting speak for itself. But when you stand back and look at what this country has produced over the past month, it’s difficult not to feel very proud of our little corner of Africa.

For anyone who loves hunting kudu, the mountains, the valleys, the glassing, the long stalks and the challenge of an old bull, this is a very special place. This is Kudu country.

There is something special about hunting a mature free range kudu in the mountains of South Africa. It isn’t just about the trophy, it’s about the country, the challenge, and the experience that stays with you long after the hunt is over.

This hunt happened to be from the ‘Judge’ a landmark that many of our returning hunters know well. Breathtaking scenery and some of the finest kudu hunting country in Africa can be seen from the Judge!
Although this hunt ends with a successful long range shot, the distance is only a small part of the story. Success came from careful glassing, understanding the wind, patience, and putting together a plan on a true fair chase hunt.

At Lalapa Safaris we believe the Eastern Cape offers some of the finest free range spiral horn hunting in South Africa. Vast mountain country, naturally breeding kudu populations, and ethical hunting combine to create an unforgettable safari experience.
