We all love our South African sports teams. But as someone who’s lived football as a player and now on the coaching side, We need to have a brutally honest conversation....

Waiting for a “miracle win” are getting us nowhere. On the global stage, we’re out of touch with the world’s top nations.

If we want to save our game, we have to stop obsessing over the senior team and look at the ground beneath our feet.

The real currency of SA football right now is our kids.

That’s the golden window. MISS their development in those foundational years, and we’re just managing decline.

And the hard truth I see on the field: if you get kids at age 14 and they still can’t pass or control a ball, you have to ask what we really missed with them. At that stage, you’re not developing players — you’re patching holes.

Countries like Brazil, and Argentina aren’t inherently better. They’re just years ahead of us, long-term thinking.

That’s where the work starts.
