ALMOST RACE DAY. TIME TO FUEL UP🐍⏱️

The Cobra is excited to welcome Fuel First as our new Official Race Vendor.

Fuel First is stepping up to the start line and taking over the vendor nutrition space as we build towards Cape Cobra 2026.

Founded by Matt, Fuel First is an online endurance nutrition store built by a runner, for runners.

After one too many gels going to waste on race day, Matt set out to make fuelling a little simpler. Good products. Good advice. And someone on the other side who actually understands what it’s like to be out there on the trail.

Fuel First will be supporting the Cobra community through our upcoming recces, helping to fill the race packs and making sure runners have access to some great nutrition in the build-up to race day.

Cape Cobra entrants will also receive exclusive Fuel First discounts.

And then, of course, there’s race day.

For the last year, we’ve been meeting on the trails.

Running together. Getting lost together. Sharing countless coffees, Revives and beers. Making friends and growing a community around this wildly beautiful thing we call the Cobra.

Now, with two months to go, it’s almost time to bring the pulse together. 💛

We set out to build an unforgettable finish line celebration. A gathering of good food, great people, family and friends, with a little Cobra chaos and plenty of big Cobra vibes. 🐍😜

First up, and returning for Strike 2: HEAVY PETALS 🌸🐍

Born by accident. Forged by fate. The true origin story is… blurry.

Some say it started with a few late-night jams in Rob Shaff’s living room. Others swear the first signs of Heavy Petals appeared on a stage somewhere in Namaqualand.

The truth? We’re not entirely sure.

What we do know is that a bunch of good friends got together, started making noise and somehow ended up becoming an undercover hit.

This time, the full band is back. But Rob and Jamie won’t just be on stage. They’ll be hitting the trail along side you all before making it back to the finish line to rock your socks off 🎸🤘

For the latest episode of The Cobra Channel, we put two familiar faces from the South African trail scene in the hot seat: Pete Calitz and Matt Savage from Jack Black.

Pete is an OG of the trails, a well-known face in the South African running community and someone synonymous with Jack Black. Matt is part of the Jack Black team and a trail runner himself, so we figured we’d let them have the conversation.

The only catch?

We made Pete the interviewer.

What followed was exactly what we want The Cobra Channel to be: relaxed, funny, genuine and completely unpolished. Matt takes us through Jack Black’s connection with the trail community, how that relationship began and why the brand has become so deeply woven into trail culture in South Africa.

And with Jack Black returning as a Cape Cobra partner for a second year, we’re pretty excited about what’s waiting at the finish line this year — beer, pizza, music and a proper post-race celebration.
