Living Sanctuary in the Shadow of Lion’s Head

If you walk the slopes of Signal Hill and the trails below Lion’s Head on a Sunday morning, the mountain air carries more than just the scent of wild fynbos and eucalyptus—it carries song.

Tucked into the groves above the city, open-air Apostolic congregations gather under the trees for weekly worship. Known across Southern Africa for holding services in nature rather than within concrete walls, these gatherings turn the open mountainside into a natural cathedral.

The layered acapella harmonies, call-and-response hymns, and steady cadence of clapping echo down the valley, reminding us that Table Mountain National Park isn’t just a scenic playground or trail network—it is a deeply spiritual, living cultural landscape shared by many traditions.

Next time you’re heading up the trail, take off the headphones for a moment and listen to the soul of the mountain.

One summit, two celestial spectacles.

06:10 AM | Facing West: Watching the blood moon eclipse hang low over the deep blue Atlantic, framed by the lights of Clifton below.

07:20 AM | Facing East: Turning around to an incredible sea of clouds catching first light as the sun crested the eastern ranges.

Moments like this make early climbs up Lion’s Head unforgettable.

On the 28th of August, I’m taking a small group up Lion’s Head before first light — not for the usual sunrise, but to catch a lunar eclipse on the way up. We meet at 05h30, climb in the dark, and reach the summit by 07h00, just as the sun rises over the city and the moon fades out behind us.

It’s free, and it’s by invitation. A small thank you to the people who’ve backed this journey so far, and a good enough reason to share something rare with them.

Spots are limited. If you’d like to join, drop me a message on WhatsApp (link in bio) and I’ll save you a place.

See you in the dark. 🌘🏔️

From a quiet, rocky shore beneath the watchful gaze of Lion’s Head to a vibrant modern urban coastline.

Take a look at how far we’ve come! In the older photograph, this iconic stretch was wild, open ground with just a scattering of historic buildings and a lone rowboat resting on the rocks. Fast forward to today, and those rustic edges have transformed into a bustling boulevard framed by striking apartment blocks, green lawns, and the timeless beauty of our favorite peak.
Cape Town is a city where every single view has a deep history layered beneath it.

Clifton before the multi-million Rand architectural masterpieces and luxury apartment complexes lined the boulders. In the early 1900s, this dramatic granite coastline was a secluded haven featuring only modest timber bungalows—primarily home to fishermen and railway workers navigating steep, untouched footpaths above the Atlantic.

Today, those modest roots have evolved into South Africa’s ultimate coastal sanctuary, where pristine white sands meet striking modern design.

Every corner of the Cape holds a story. Come explore the layers of our incredible landscape with us.
