Javokhir Sindarov: “I Would Already Be World Champion”
Uzbek Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov has opened up about his training journey, preparation for the 2026 Candidates Tournament, and his ambitions for the future.
In an interview with Hisdustam Times,, Sindarov revealed that he dedicated himself fully to preparation before the Candidates, working alongside his coach Roman for up to 10 hours a day over 80–90 days.
“I worked really hard last year with my coach Roman, 10 hours a day for 80-90 days. So, it’s not that I was lucky to win the Candidates, a lot of hard work went into it.”
The Uzbek star also shared that he prefers analyzing positions on a physical chessboard rather than relying heavily on computers, saying it is an approach inspired by Magnus Carlsen.
Reflecting on his early years, Sindarov admitted that he did not train as intensely as many elite young players and believes greater dedication could have brought even more success.
“I feel if I had trained a lot when I was young, I would have already been a World Champion by now. I never really trained much, maybe 15 hours a week. It’s not of Grandmaster level”
Despite that, Sindarov's rise has been remarkable. He earned the Candidate Master title at just 9 years old, became a Grandmaster at 12 years and 10 months, won the 2026 Candidates Tournament, and is now ranked World No. 4 with a rating of 2777.
At just 20 years old, Sindarov will challenge for the World Championship later this year.
