Extensive tree clearance at Telok Blangah Heights.
Telok Blangah has a special character in Singapore with its lush green secondary forests and matured trees.
This beautiful greenery was sadly marred today by extensive clearance of matured trees.
It’s unclear what the reasons were but it couldn’t have taken place at a worst time with rising temperatures in an El Niño year at peak hot season.
The shade mature trees provide lowers ambient temperatures by 1C compared with more urban estates.
Trees have many benefits including keeping temperatures down in hot tropical climates.

There has been a spate of tree clearance in the vicinity of Telok Blangah Heights next to blocks 58 and 59. The clearance has been quite extensive resulting in the felling of several matured trees which not only add to the charm of the matured housing estate but act as a climate moderator in Singapore’s hot tropical climate. This is taking place at the worst possible time with rising temperatures in an El Niño year at peak hot season at mid year. Comments welcome.
