Ricky’s story: a legacy of care 🫶

As we count down to the Boland Regional Trial 2026, we’re excited to introduce another of the brands supporting our event, Ricky Pet Products .

But Ricky isn’t just a name on a packet. There’s an incredible story behind it.

During World War II, a Border Collie/Old English Sheepdog named Ricky was trained as a British Army war dog, working alongside his handler, Maurice Yeilding, in the dangerous task of detecting and clearing mines.

In 1945, Ricky and his handler were wounded by an exploding mine. Despite his own injuries, Ricky made his way back through the minefield and led medics to his wounded handler.

For his extreme bravery and devotion to duty, Ricky was awarded the Dickin Medal, often described as the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross.

Ricky's story didn't end there. His legacy lives on through Ricky Pet Products, whose range was developed with a focus on the health and wellbeing of our pets, including products featuring Buchu, a South African botanical that has a long history of traditional use.

We love that behind this brand is a story about courage, loyalty, partnership and the incredible bond between people and dogs, values that feel very close to the heart of dog sport.

Tezamen Boarding Kennels is opening up a select number of kennels for handlers to camp onsite over the Boland RT weekend. ⛺️

The kennels are open-air and feature a comfortable indoor/outdoor layout. Each kennel includes an indoor section with a sliding door leading to an outdoor area, as well as a private attached outdoor run for your exclusive use throughout your stay.

Each kennel is equipped with a power outlet and a privacy curtain. Hirers are responsible for providing their own camping equipment, bedding, lighting, power extensions, cooking utensils, and any other personal camping essentials.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our first show of the year. It was a morning filled with relaxed, fun vibes and the best kind of company. There is nothing quite like seeing the dogs (and handlers!) enjoying the day!😁

A special highlight was our very first Geezers & Tots event. It was a massive success. Seeing the spring return to the steps of our retired dogs was truly heartwarming, and our up-and-coming pups handled their first show experience like pros. Well done to everyone who took part!
