It is with great sadness and disappointment that we announce the cancellation of this year’s AJM Breede Canoe Marathon.
After consultation with all the relevant committees and safety officials, the following concerns have been considered:
-Warnings and safety concerns raised by the local municipalities and landowners.
-Unknown new hazards and river blockages following the recent flood damage.
-Limited access to known river safety points.
-No long term forecasted rainfall in the Breede catchment area.
-Current low water levels (4 cumec and dropping).
-Start and finish venues are still in the rebuilding stages with limited operational function/ablution facilities.
-Early deposit outlays which would result in considerable late cancellation financial losses to the WCCU.
-Last minute accommodation cancellation costs.
-Paddler experience disappointment.
-Sponsor expectation disappointment.

🚨 *K2 Race Cancelled – Saturday, 15 August*

The *Giel van Deventer Legacy Race (Drew to Falcon River Reserve)* scheduled for this Saturday has unfortunately been *cancelled due to the very low river level of the Breede River*.

We apologise for the disappointment and thank all paddlers for their understanding.

Eilandia to Robertson - 8th August
Due to extremely low water levels on the Breede River the Eilandia to Robertson race hopefully will move to the Berg River, Paarl to Grens Plaas section.
The anticipated rainfall on Thursday could make this possible at short notice.
Thursday evening a call will be made.
