LIV Golf isn’t really about golf.

That fight everyone saw sets the tone.

By mid-afternoon, the conversations said more than the golf.

Someone loved Rory because he’s “left-handed.”
Another called a 20m push with a fairway wood a shank — loudly, repeatedly.
Someone else said Bryson “duffed” a putt… because it finished short.

None of it was a joke.

Generous estimate?
20% of the crowd were actually golfers.

The music is meant to build atmosphere…
but it kills the most important thing in golf:

Silence.

That moment before a putt — where everyone holds their breath —
is one of the loudest feelings in sport.

LIV doesn’t have that.

Because at LIV, golf isn’t the attraction.
It’s just one of them.

If you like getting drunk at rugby or cricket, you’ll love it.
If you’re there for golf… it feels off.

Which is strange — because the golf itself is world class.

These guys are still among the best on the planet.
Seeing Anthony Kim felt like spotting a unicorn.

But context matters.

This doesn’t feel like where careers are built.
It feels like where they cash out.

A few weeks ago, I left the SA Open wanting to play golf immediately.

After LIV…
I just wanted a good dinner.

That difference says everything.

I like LIV. On TV, it works.
It’s entertaining. It’ll sell out every year in Joburg.

But it’s missing something money can’t buy.

Something that makes golf… golf.

And until it finds that—
it’s a great spectacle.

Just not a complete one.
