We are thrilled to share that we recently hosted an impactful Gender-Based Violence (GBV) 101 Certified Course, led by the esteemed Ms. Rosalina Ah Sue from UN Women. This initiative was made possible thanks to the strong collaboration between our NRL Voice Against Violence Program and the Ministry of Family and Social Affairs.

Participants from Rugby League Samoa’s local clubs, both men and women, came together in a powerful spirit of learning and commitment to creating safer communities. We deeply appreciate everyone’s dedication and the insightful contributions that enriched this training.

In the spirit of the Samoan proverb, "E fofo e le alamea le alamea"—"the crown of thorns starfish is its own remedy." We are reminded that we, as a community, have the inner strength and resources to tackle our challenges together.

Through initiatives like this, we continue to move forward on our journey to end violence and promote equality through the power of sport.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese today joined his counterparts from Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga in Brisbane to launch the Pacific Rugby League Partnership.

The partnership will strengthen our ties through sport and create education, leadership and employment opportunities.

Australia’s commitment of $250 million over 10 years will also create pathways for emerging talent across the Pacific.

Early initiatives of the partnership include:
• expanding youth engagement and violence prevention programs in the region to reach more communities
• identifying opportunities for NRL and NRLW matches to be played in the Pacific.

The partnership will be delivered by the Australian Rugby League Commission collaboration with the national rugby league federations of Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa and Fiji.

Prime Minister Albanese described it as “bringing our Pacific family closer together” through one of Australia’s favourite sporting codes.
