Our qualified coaches teach the core skills and fundamentals of Rugby Union, Rugby League and Touch Rugby in a safe & positive environment. Sometime during 2009 a group of ex patriot parents started to involve their kids and their friends in rugby union. They gathered in the weekends to throw the ball around and tackle each other for fun. In 2012 the group of kids had expanded to approx. 30-40 and with a strong parent/coach support team behind them, we decided to be officially addressed as the Chiefs Rugby Academy Vanuatu (CRAV). As there was no (and currently still) no junior rugby program in Vanuatu, CRAV set about to organise tournaments and enter their academy teams so that our kids could experience and enjoy 'rugby competition'. Fast forward to 2020 and in between all the voluntary and countless hours put into the kids training and development, CRAV has hosted local fixtures vs five overseas clubs, travelled to Noumea twice (Under 16s) and travelled to New Zealand twice (Under18s/19s). All done with no official funding other than local sponsorship and kindness of the Vanuatu rugby community.
2021 sees a changing of the guard and we will now be known as Rugby Academy Vanuatu (RAV), we will maintain our Barbarians identity as previously adapted for both our tours to New Zealand. We are a junior rugby development program designed to better prepare rugby playing youth for club rugby and rugby league at senior level.
