COMPETITION FREQUENCY & MANAGING OVERLOAD
Playing sports regularly doesn’t mean your body is always ready for high-intensity competition. As competition frequency increases, your body is repeatedly exposed to acceleration, deceleration, changes of direction, contact, and repetitive movements.
That’s why sport-specific supplemental training is not only about becoming stronger or faster. It helps your body better tolerate the physical demands of competition.
A well-designed program should balance strength, power, mobility, conditioning, and recovery. Most importantly, training volume should be adjusted according to your competition schedule. Combining frequent competition with high training volume and insufficient recovery can lead to accumulated fatigue, excessive load, and increased injury risk.
The goal is not to train as much as possible, but to train enough to meet the demands of your sport while staying within your ability to recover.
