From the outside it may look like “play” but a toddler and preschool dance class is actually building the foundation for SO many important dance skills.
At Movement on Main, our youngest dancers learn through purposeful exercises. Our classes incorporate the Discover Dance curriculum and American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum, giving children developmentally appropriate ways to explore movement while building strong foundations for future technical dance training.
We practice the building blocks of dance: high and low levels, slow and fast speeds, light and strong movement qualities, different musical tempos, coordination, spatial awareness, and creative expression.
🐘 When we stomp like elephants, dancers are using their imaginations while practicing coordination, rhythm, musicality, and strong movement.
🦋 When we fly like butterflies, we’re practicing rising high onto our tippy toes, balance, slow fluid arm movements, and artistic expression.
🐱 When we crawl like cats, we’re developing cross-lateral coordination, strength, body awareness, and motor planning.
Scarves, obstacle courses, stories, animal walks, parachutes, and freeze dance all have a purpose.
Dance is so much more than learning steps. It gives children the opportunity to become both athletic AND artistic by developing strong, coordinated bodies while learning to use movement to imagine and express themselves.
